OF A NEW RIVER-CROSSING AT THE EASTERN CORRIDOR (I-265) LOCATION
WHEREAS, the location of any new river-crossing will have a significant effect on the
economic, historic and cultural condition of the City of Jeffersonville; and
WHEREAS, the location of a new fiver crossing immediately east of the existing 1-65
bridge would result in the loss of a large number of successful, revenue-producing businesse, s
from JeffersonviIle's tax base; and
WHEREAS, a corresponding loss of jobs would also result from the location of a new
bridge in downtown Jeffersonville; and
WHEREAS, these losses would also result in a significant reduction in tax revenue to the
City.
WHEREAS, the location of a new river crossing in downtown Jeffersonville would have
an overwhelmingly detrimental effect on Jeffersonville's Historic District; and
WHEREAS, the location of a new fiver crossing in downtown Jeffersonville would result
in the loss of a significant number of residences, significant neighborhood encroachment and
community facility encroachment;
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED that the Common
Council of the City of Jeffersonville does not support the construction of any river-crossing in
downtown Jeffersonville;
IT IS HEREBY FURTHER UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED that the Common Council
favors the construction of a new river-crossing at the eastern corridor (I-265) location ONLY.
