ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A DEPARTMENT OF LAW
NON-REVERTING FUND
WHEREAS, the Jeffersonvilie Department of Law (the "Department")
periodically COllects attorney fees from work done to facilitate issuance of municipal
bonds; and
WHEREAS, to enhance its service to the citizens of the City of Jeffersonville,
the Department needs to upgrade and improve its law library (including its computer-
assisted research capabilities), computers and other office equipment; and
WHEREAS, the attorney fees collected by the Department would be a non-
tax source of income to fund the enhancement of its law library and the purchase of
new office equipment for the Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the
City of Jeffersonville, Indiana that it hereby establishes a non-reverting fund for the
purpose of receiving and holding attorney fees received by the Department of Law.
Monies from the non-reverting fund may be used to enhance the Department's law
library (including its computer-assisted reseamh capabilities), and purchase new
office equipment. This fund shall be entitled "Department of Law Non-Reverting
Fund" and monies may be expended from this fund only upon the filing of a proper
claim in issuance of a warrant for payment by the Clerk-Treasurer after approval by
the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville. Hereafter the Clerk-Treasurer
shall not deposit monies the Jeffersonville Department of Law receives as attorney
fees into the City's General Fund, but shall deposit those fees into this non-reverting
fund.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and
approval.
