HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-14-2006 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JUNE 14, 2006 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call ofthe roll those members present were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson McCauley. Also present were: Asst. Police Chief Lovan, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, City Attorney Merkley, Parks Director Poff, Personnel Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Street Commissioner Ellis, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, IT Director Hardy, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Fire Captain Jackson, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS: AWARD OF STREET SWEEPER BID- Engineer Miller made the motion to award the Street Sweeper bid to Brown Equipment in the amount of$154,995.00, seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously. The sweeper is an Allianz/Johnston VT 650. BID FOR CLEANING SERVICES FOR NEW CITY HALL- Bids were received from the following: Kenway Janitorial $38,172.24 Cousins Cleaning Service $2,500.00 per month Budget Janitorial $74,484.00 Engineer Miller made the motion to take the bids under advisement, seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously. FURNITURE BID FOR NEW CITY HALL- Linda Jacobs with the Estopinal Group opened a bid from Munson Business Interiors for new I furniture for the New City Hall in the amount of $1 02,266.28. Councilperson McCauley made the motion to take the bid under advisement, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. RESIDENT ONLY PARKING SIGN REQUEST- Donald Willis who resides at Gardenside Terrace requested a resident only parking sign. He said he has health problems and has trouble finding a place to park. After discussion, Mayor Waiz said he would call the apartment complex manager for more information. RESIDENT ONLY PARKING SIGN REQUEST- Charles Branham requested a resident only parking sign at 811 Penn Street. The police department will check the location. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the request pending police approval, seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously. SOLICITORS PERMIT- College students Jack Mazzina and Marko Bateren asked the Board to approve door-to-door sales of educational books for approximately twelve weeks from 8 am to 8 pm. Councilperson McCauley made the motion to approve the solicitor's permit, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. There will be a $50.00 fee for the permit. DOG COMPLAINT- Engineer Miller said a neighbor of his called about a problem with dogs jumping a fence over into her yard and she is afraid to go into her back yard. Animal Shelter Director Wilder said the lady has called him about this. He said by the time they get there the dogs are back on their own property. Director Wilder suggested she call him the next time it happens and he will notify the police. ALLISON COURTY ARDS- City Attorney Merkley informed the department heads that the city has annexed Allison Courtyards. He said the city has been getting calls from INAP as a great portion of it is in the city limits. He said we have zoned it so a great deal ofthe zoning issues, building permits, drainage, and etc. are the city's responsibility. There being no further discussion to come before the Board, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously.
