OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JUNE 7, 2006
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were:
Councilperson McCauley and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Asst. Police Chief Lovan, Planning and Zoning Director
Hicks, Building Commissioner Segraves, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance
Director Drury, Parks Director Poff, Councilperson Wilson, IT Director Hardy, Personnel Director
Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Fire Chief Miles, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk
Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson
McCauley and carded unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 5-31-06, seconded by
Councilperson McCanley and carded unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
BID OPENING-JEFFERSONVILLE CHAS. PIKE SIDEWALK INSTALLATION-PHASE
ONE
Jorge Lanz of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz opened bids as follows:
American Contracting Inc.- $368,926.00
Pace Contracting LLC- $217,000.00
King Contracting- $254,449.20
Engineer Miller made the motion to take the bid} under advisement, seconded by Councilperson
McCauley and carried unanimously.
KEN ELLIS CENTER
Jill Saegesser presented a letter of recommendation for Kevco Construction to do the Ken Ellis Center
job in the amount of $830,000.00. She said the bid is good for sixty days.
UTICA PIKE RR CROSSING
Rodney Gross of the Clark Maritime Center asked the Board to approve the construction ora new railroad
crossing on Utica Pike and Port Road. It would be located closer to the Clark Maritime Center offices and
was originally planned in May 2000. Engineer~Miller asked if the crossing would be Wide enough to
accommodate future widening of the road. Mr~ Gross said this would be no problem. He said it takes
approximately four months for approval from INDOT, and then bids will be taken. The total process
would be about one year to complete. Engineer Miller made the motion approve the construction of a new
railroad crossing, seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously.
STREET CLOSING AUGUST 12, 2006 FOR JOE LEAR WALK-A-THON
Nicole Toran of Community Action of Southern Indiana asked the Board to approve a Walk-A-Thon on
August 12, 2006. The walk will begin at the Overlook at 7 am and will last 30-45 minutes. (Route
attached). Engineer Miller made the motion tO approve the August 12~ Joe Lear Walk-A-Thon, seconded
by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously.
SOFTBALL FIELD AND NOISE ISSUE
Steve Stenbro who owns and operates the Market Street Inn told the Board of balls being hit from the
softball field hitting and damaging vehicles. He requested the City install a net across the back of the field
to help alleviate the problem. Parks Director pofftold Mr. Stenbro that his budget wouldn't allow for the
purchase this year. Mayor Waiz said he would talk to Director Poff about this issue. City Attorney
Merkley said the City isn't liable for the damage. Councilperson McCauley said the auto owners
insurance should cover any damages incurred while at the Market Street Inn.
Mr. Stenbro said a neighbor residing at 332 W2 Market Street is disturbing the peace by doing garage
work between the hours of 5 pm and 3 am. Building Commissioner Segraves said he would check out the
problem and report back to the Board.
DRIVEWAY RAMPS
Engineer Miller said a lady who resides on Ridgeway Drive called him to say that she can't afford the
$300.00 fee charged by the City to tear out her driveway ramp. Mayor Waiz said making payments might
be an option if it's a hardship case. Engineer Miller said he would present the option to her.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Counc~lperson
McCaul_~~0:20 a.m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.

Walk-a-thon Route:
Start at the Overlook on Riversid~ Drive.
Go west on R~verside Drive to Pearl Street.
Go north On Pearl Street to Court Avenue.
Go east on Court Avenue to Spring Street.
Go South on Spring Street to the Overlook.
The route is estimated to last 30-45 minutes
The walk-a-thon is scheduled to begin at 7pm.

The ~rassroots Prevention Coalition of Clark
County invites kids of all ages to a community
walk at River Stage in Jeffersonville. The walk will
be Saturday, August 12 and it is FREE. Kick off is
at 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will be available.
The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness of
the dangers associated with drug use - each and
every time, even affcer you stop using drugs.
Joe Lear was a senior at Jeff High when he sud-
denly suffered a stroke. The cause of his untimely
death was found to be complications and damage
as a result of drug use.
