HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-5-2006MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA APRIL 5, 2006 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those mcmabers present were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson McCauley. Also present were: Fire Chief Miles, Police Officer Oliver. Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, City Attorney Merkley, Parks Director Poff, Personnel Director Calabro, Street Commissioner Ellis, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Councilperson Perkins, Redevelopment Director Cahill, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Conncilperson McCauley and carried unanimously. Councilperson McCauley made the motion to approve the m~nutes of 3-22-06, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS GRASSCUTTING BIDS- Engineer Miller opened bids for grass cutting services at the Riverfront. They are as follows: Walnut Ridge- Mowing along river from Star to Jeff Boat. Mowing the Terrace Lawn $325.00 per cut. $150.00 per cut Steele Blades, Inc. Mowing, edging, and blowing Riverfront property (area includes grass from Kingfish to Jeff Boat'} $400.00 per cut J and J Lawn Service- Mowing riverfront. Trimming, landscaping, and etc. will be extra. $550.00 Greg's Lawn and Landscape- Mowing, trimming, & cleanup of riverbank Weed eating eastside of riverbank Mowing, trimming, & cleanup ofTen'ace Lawn Weed and Feed applications (2) $365.00 per cut $165.00 per cut $ 60.00 per cut $170.00 Engineer Miller made the motion to take the ¢ids under advisement until next week, seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carded unanimously. VENDOR PERMIT- . James Williams came before the Board to request a vendor permit to sell bar-b-que in the City of Jeffersonville. Councilperson McCauley made the motion to approve the vendor permit for one year with a $100.00 fee yearly, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. BANNERS DOWNTOWN- Jill Schimpff and Alto Lagoey appeared before the Board in regard to purchasing poles for banners to advertise events in the City of Jeffersonville. The Taste of Jeffersonville would pay for the poles. Mayor Waiz said he would look into the cost and get back with her. FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLAN- Personnel Director Calabro asked the Board to approve a Flexible Spending Plan with Benefit Marketing Solutions. The Flexible Spending accounts enable employees to set aside money on a pre-tax basis via salary redirection to pay for certain qualified expenses. Employees are then reimbursed for eligible health care expenses that are not covered or reimbursed under the employers health plan. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the Flexible Spending Plan with a $1,500.00 maximum amount per employee with no waiting period for new employees and reimbursements be made only according to what employees have put in. seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carded unanimously. CHANGE ORDER #10 CITY HALL- Engineer Miller made the motion to approve Change Order #10 in the amount of $16,490.00 for City Hall renovations, seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously. FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTION- Councilperson McCauley made the motion to approve promoting Lt. Robert Jones to rank of Captain effective April 6, 2006. seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. PURCHASE AGREEMENT- Councilperson McCauley made the motion to approve the purchase agreement for the City of Jeffersonville to buy property from C. McCarty at Hwy.62 to Woodland Court in the amount of $925,000.00, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. Councilperson McCauley made the motion to approve the purchase agreement for the City of Jeffersonville to buy property from Les and Elvira Richard at 2204 East Tenth Street in the amount of $325,000.00, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. The purchases are subject to Council approval. There being no further discussion to come before the Board. City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:10 a.m., seconded by Councilperson McCauley and carried unanimously. CLERK~'/[SURER
