HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-11-2006MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JANUARY 11, 2006 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Asst. Police Chief Lovan, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Building Commissioner Segraves, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Parks Director Poff, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Davis, Personnel Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Fire Chief Miles, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 1-4-06, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS EASEMENT Greg Charmoli had appeared at a previous meeting to request approval for an alley easement in Industrial Park. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the easement, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Mr. Charmoli agreed to take care of the ditch behind Brinly-Hardy per Engineer Miller's request. NEW BUSINESS RESIDENT PARKING SIGN Kay Winn who resides at 1003 E. Market Street, Apt. 1 came before the Board to request a resident only parking sign. The Board told her the fee for the sign is $100.00 annually which she said she could not afford. CHANGE ORDER #6 CITY HALL Change Order #6 was presented to the Board for approval in the amount of $17,049.00 for City Hall. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve Change Order #6 as presented, seconded by Councilperson Seller and carried unanimously. 40 YEARS OF SERVICE Mayor Waiz presented the Commodore of the Port award to Lee Hemingway for forty years of service to the City of Jeffersonville. He was also given an engraved watch. COMMENTS: Street Commissioner Ellis asked if bars could be erected to protect the wall with the art to protect it. Engineer Miller said he would look into this. Street Commissioner Ellis said a light pole on West Market Street across from the Harbours is broken off which left a hole. He wants to fill in the hole. Engineer Miller said the hole could be filled in. Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry said he has an updated list of insured vehicles that he will go over with all department heads. Coordinator Davis asked all departments to delete their old e-mails. Personnel Director Calabro said driving record checks would be done on city employees who drive city vehicles for insurance purposes. She also distributed Equal Employment and Harassment policies for everyone to go over. Assistant Police Chief Lovan asked the Board to approve raising the fee for parking violations from $15.00 to $25.00 and gun permits from $10.00 to $15.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the fees, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. Attorney Merkley said the City Council will need to amend the ordinance on parking fees and it will need to be published. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to adjourn at 10:10 a.m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
