HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-18-2006MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JANUARY 18, 2006 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Asst. Police Chief Lovan, Fire Chief Miles, Councilperson Wilson, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Building Commissioner Segraves, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Davis, Personnel Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. HAMBURG PIKE ROAD CLOSURE Homebuilder Bill Bums requested that Hamburg Pike be closed for one day, possibly two in order to install a water line. Traffic would be routed through Industrial Park. The road would be closed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the closure, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. En. gineer Miller said the closure would need to be published in the newspaper and proper detour signs erected. GRIEVANCE Fireman's Union President Rick VanGilder brought before the Board a grievance by Union member Chris Kinnaird. On 10-23-05 during a run, Firefighter Pvt. Chris Kinnaird said an object on the ground damaged his bunker boots. The information was forwarded to his Captain, the Major, and the Deputy Chief. On 12-6-05 Mr. Kinnalrd took the boots to Deputy Chief Decker and Deputy Chief Decker turned in the request to replace them. On January 9, 2006 Chief Miles sent a letter to the Executive Board Local 558 stating that Pvt. Kinnaird's boots were not damaged on the scene. It was his determination that the damage was due to fatigue to the age of the boots; therefore the administration denied the request for new boots. The administration also determined that the proper documentation and procedures per Local 558 Contract section 13.2 have not been met, therefore the grievance will be denied. A~er some discussion Conncilperson Sellers made the motion to deny the grievance to replace the boots, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. WALKING TOUR Cindy Henley asked the Board to approve her conducting a Walking Tour the last weekend of April 2006. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the Walking Tour, seconded by Councilperson Seller and carried unanimously. CONTRACT-CROWE CHISEK Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the contract with Crowe-Chizek for financial advisor services on the two new fire stations, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. COMMENTS: Building Commissioner Segraves said Toshiba is ready to connect the computers to their new copier. Street Commissioner Ellis asked how to handle cleaning the streets where portable basketball goals are on the street. Assistant Police Chief Lovan asked Street Commissioner Ellis to give him the addresses. Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry said all vehicle tags are listed for insurance companies. Redevelopment Director Cahill said he has Enterprise Zone maps. Planning and Zoning Director Hicks said the Comprehensive Task Force meeting has been postponed until late February. Personnel Director Calabro said she has brochures on free tax preparation for employees who eam less than $37,263.00 gross income. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to a¢ou~l~ MAYOR"'-' a.m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
