HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-02-2005MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA NOVEMBER 2, 2005 Engineer Miller called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Building Commissioner Se~aves sitting in for City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Davis, Fire Chief Miles, Asst. Police Chief Lovan, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, City Attorney Merkley, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Parks Director Poll, Personnel Director Calabro, Building Inspector Potter, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the claims, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS HOUSE MOVING Steve Edwards of Edwards House and Building Movers, LLC came before the Board to request permission to move two houses. One house will be moved on a Saturday in approximately three to four weeks from 2913 E. Tenth Street to 1612 Lee Street. The other house will be moved in about two weeks on a Saturday morning from 3318 Hamburg Pike to 218 Williams Street. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously. Mr. Edwards thanked the Police Department for their help during the last two moves. (Routes attached) NAMING OF STREET Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve naming a street offN.A. Charlestown Pike "Scott Morrison Drive", seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. CITATION-NEWSOM Building Commission Inspector Potter reported to the Board that Pete Newsom of 916 Walnut Street has been cited going back to 1985 for violations. Mr. Newsom owes $1,446.20 for grass cutting and removal of waste. He also owes fines and has liens against his property. The liens started in 1985 and the Federal Government has liens against the property in the amount of $304,407.00, which takes precedence over any other liens. He said Mr. Newsom is in violation of twelve different ordinances and recommends proceedings to remove the house from the property. Mr. Newsom said he has had health issues and that his contractor passed away which delayed progress: Building Commissioner Segraves said some progress has been made but not near enough and continues to deteriorate and is unsafe. Mr. Newsom requested thirty days to bring the property into compliance. Les Merkley stated it would take longer than thirty days for the condemnation proceeding. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to start condemnation proceedings for 916 Walnut Street, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. Mr. Newsom can continue working on the property. 2006 HOLIDAY SCHEDULE Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the 2006 Holiday schedule, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and camed unanimously. COMMENTS: Street Commissioner Ellis said a Suburban Acres road is being worked on. Administrator Davis asked the status of phone service. Mayor Waiz said he is working on it and bids will be taken. Nellie Knowland voiced concern about the police taking too long to respond to a call. Assistant Police Chief Lovan will look into it. She also said "Children Playing" signs are needed on Fairview Avenue. Mayor Waiz told Parks Director Poffhe would like some barriers erected at the JeffFootball League so that everyone isn't parking on Charlestown Avenue. Personnel Director Calabro said November i4, 2005 is the tentative date for flu shots. There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Councilperson Sellers made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:15 a.m., seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
