OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
OCTOBER 26, 2005
Mayor Walz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were:
Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Fire Chief Miles, Asst. Police Chief Lovan, Wastewater
Treatment Director Crawford, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Building Commissioner Segraves,
Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Parks Director Poff, Personnel
Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Conncilperson Sellers
and carded unanimously.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 10-12-05 and 10-19-05,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
HAMBURG PIKE SIDEWALK BIDS
Engineer Miller made the motion to award the Hamburg Pike Sidewalk bid to Team Contracting,
seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Jorge Lanz of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz
stated for the record that Item #16 (sodding) was deleted from the bid totals, which made Team
Contracting's bid low in the amount of $88,619.00. Mac Construction's bid was $95,124.00 and
Goodman Construction's bid was $93,240.00.
VETERAN'S DAY FLAGS
Shirley Nolot on behalf of the Clark County Democrat Women's Club asked permission to place flags at
Tenth and Spring Streets on Veterans Day in honor of fallen military men and women. Engineer Miller
made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Conncilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
1310 PEACH STREET DRIVEWAY
Richard Kapple who resides at 1310 Peach Street appeared before the Board in regard to people parking
in front of his driveway. Mayor Waiz suggested a resident only parking sign. The police department
will check the location.
ROADWAY EASEMENT
Real Estate Agent Grey Charmali spoke on behalf of Emie Cooper who owns a business in Industrial
Park. Mr. Cooper is looking to expand his business within the park by buying another V2 to ~ acres
behind his property. There is a 50 ft. roadway easement that he would like to acquire that belongs to the
City. Mr. Charmali asked how to go about acquiring the easement from the City. After discussion,
Mayor Waiz said he would look into this and report his findings next week. Councilperson Sellers made
the motion to table until next week, sec°nded by Engineer Miller and canSed unanimously.
HIRING OF PiPE LAYER
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve hiring a pipe layer, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and
carded unanimously.
COMMENTS:
Mayor's Night Out is scheduled for October 27, 2005 at 6:00 pm at Maple Street School.
Harold Armstrong asked if Charlestown Pike has been vacated yet. City Attorney Merkley said it has
not been vacated and suggested that Mr. Armstrong have a new survey done.
Personnel Director Calabro requested that the Department Heads turn in their United Way enrollment
slips. She said flu shots are scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2005 from 10:30 till 12:30.
Planning and Zoning Director Hicks said the Comprehensive Task Force meeting is today at 4:00 pm in
the Mayor's conference room.
Engineer Miller said he has hired Avery Tree Service to trim trees on Court Avenue. He said he has
permission to have the tree on Pen'in Lane cut down. Engineer Miller said he is meeting with Beam,
Longest, and Neffin regard to getting rid of the old sewer plant.
Planning and Zoning Director Hicks asked if there are any plans to widen Penin Lane. Engineer Miller
said we have some plans but no money. Street Commissioner Ellis said there is a grant he could apply
for.
Parks Director Poff thanked everyOne for his or her help on Halloween Downtown Monday night.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson
Sellers to ad~O)m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
