OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
AUGUST 10, 2005
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9'30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were'
Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Fire Chief Miles, Police Chief Ashabranner, Animal
Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Parks Director Poff, Personnel Director
Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Councilperson Wilson, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy
Clerk Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Sellers
and carded unanimously.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 8-3-05 with an amendment
and the minutes of 8-5-05, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims, seconded by Councilperson Seller
and carded unanimously.
FUEL BID
Engineer Miller told the Board he reviewed the fuel bids submitted by Petroleum Traders and
Makowsky Oil. He said Petroleum Traders is low on regular gasoline but high on diesel.
After some discussion, Mayor Waiz said the bids would be tabled in order to get more
specific information before awarding the bid.
HANDICAPPED PARKING
City Attorney Merkley said he received a call from John Hatton of 448 Ewing Lane inquiring
about the status of handicapped parking sign he requested. Police Chief Ashabranner said he
would check on it and get back to the Board.
COMPLAINT
City Attorney Merkley recommended that Tamara Johnson of 532 Main Street be reimbursed
$500.00 (her deductible) for the items she lost due to the sanitation department picking up a
storage container from her carport. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to award Ms.
Johnson $500.00 and require her to sign a release to the City, seconded by Engineer Miller
and carded unanimously.
HOUSE MOVES
Steven Edwards of Edwards House and Building Movers asked permission to move two
houses to two locations. One is to be moved Saturday morning the first or second week of
September. It will take approximately two hours. The house is being moved from 2705 E.
Tenth Street to 218 Williams Street. The second is to be moved on Sunday morning and will
take approximately three hours. The house is being moved from 2711 E. Tenth Street to 3409
Alexander Court in Marquis Meadows subdivision. All utilities have been notified as well as
the Police Department. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the moves,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
CITY HALL
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve Payment #1 to E.H. Construction in the amount of
$55,297.00 for the new City Hall, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously.
COMMENTS'
Fire Chief Miles said he made some wording changes to his roles and regulations. After looking over
them Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the changes, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and
carded unanimously.
Street Commissioner .Ellis said Councilperson Grooms voices concern about the speed limit on Dutch
Lane. He would like it changed from 35 mph to 25 mph. He also requested signage stating the speed
limit. After some discussion, Mayor Waiz said 35 mph speed limit signs would be put up.
Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry asked that all city employees with city vehicles shut off their cars
when not driving. He also said that he would rather deal with Makowsky Oil on fuel than Petroleum
Traders.
Animal Shelter Director Wilder said an air conditioner went out at the Animal Shelter. The estimate for
a new one is $1,940.00. Mayor Waiz gave him the approval for a new one. He said he would like to use
donation money to pay for it. City Attorney Merkley said he would find out if donation money can be
used.
Parks Director Poff introduced the new Outreach Service Director Justin Campbell.
Personnel 'DirectOr Calabro said the Mentoring program is gearing up. She said the program is a joint
venture between the City and 21 st Century Scholars at River Valley Middle School.
Police'Chief Ashabranner asked if the City is planning to continue using Nextel Service. Mayor Waiz
said Cingular is working up a price and getting us some information on their service.
Police Chief Ashabranner asked City Attorney Merkley if it would be possible for him to trade some old
police cars for use of the County's training center. Attomey.Merkley said he thought it would be
possible.
Engineer Miller said all of the railroad crossings in Jeff are to repaired. He said two will be done at a
time and should be completed in a couple of months.
Street Commissioner Ellis said the street cuts are not being patched properly.
Animal Shelter Director Wilder said he would like to see some County people appointed to the Animal
Shelter board.
There being no further discussion to come before, the Board the.motion was made by Councilperson
Sellers to ad'oum at 10:20 a.m., seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
