OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JULY 27, 2005
In Mayor Waiz's absence, City Engineer Miller called the meeting to order at 9'35 a.m. and on call of
the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Building Commissioner Segraves
sitting in for City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Fire Chief Miles, Police Chief Ashabranner, Animal
Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks,
Wastewater Treatment Employee Meyers, Parks Dept. Asst. Director Couts, Personnel Director Calabro,
Redevelopment Director Cahill, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Building
Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-20-05, seconded by
Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
COMPLAINT
Robert Holton of Calvary Apostolic Church said he previ~ously allowed young men to play
basketball in the church parking lot until they broke out some windows. He said they are now
playing in the street and people are complaining. Attorney Merkley said no one is allOwed to
block traffic. After discussion, Attorney Merkley sa~d he would write a new ordinance in
regard to this issue to go before the council.
WATT STREET CLOSURE
Leslie Smith of Independent Piping requested permissio~ to close Watt Street for two days
for jail construction. The closure will be Thursday, July 28, and Friday, July 29, 2005. He
said they would try to complete in one day if possible. Councilperson Sellers made the
motion to approve the closure, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried
unanimously. Fire ChiefM~les told Mr. Smith to give all 'the proper notifications.
AGREEMENT AND OPTIONS
City Attorney Merkley asked the Board to approve two documents in regard to the purchase
of property with Clark Memorial Hospital. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to
approve the agreement and option, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried
unanimously.
COMMENTS'
Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry said some fuel cards might come up invalid when used.
He is working on fixing the problem.
Animal Shelter Director Wilder said $13,000.00 was raised at the Golf Scramble.
City Attorney Merkley said fuel bids would be opened on August 3, 2005.
Councilperson Sellers said her church, located across from River ValleY School is having a
problem with semis turning around in their parking lot. A sign has been knocked down
because of this. She requested that a new sign be erected stating "No turn around for semi's".
Planning and Zoning Director Hicks said a Comprehensive Plan Task Force meeting is
scheduled for today, July 27,' 2005 at 4:00 pm in the Mayor's Conference room.
There being no further discussion to come be~:bre the Board the motion was made by Councilperson
Sellers to adjourn at 10:00 a.m.~ seconded by' Building Commissioner Segraves and carried
unanimously. ~
