HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-20-2005MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JULY 20, 2005 In Mayor 'Waiz's absence, Councilperson Sellers called the meeting to order at 9'30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were' Building Commissioner Segraves sitting in for Councilperson Sellers and 'Street Commissioner Ellis sitting in fk~r City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Administrator Davis, City Attorney Merkley, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Personnel Director Calabro, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, Councilperson Barbara Wilson, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Fire Chief Miles, Mike Meyer with EMC, Sewer Inspector Lanum, and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-6-05 and 7- 13-05 as presented, seconded by Street Commissioner Ellis and carried unanimously. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Street Commissioner Ellis and carried unanimously. 21 ST CENTURY SCHOLARS City Attorney Merkley welcomed the 21st Century Scholars and explained the workings of the Board of Public Works and Safety and it's authority. IUS Junior Tristan Mannix explained that the 21st Century Scholars is a state scholarship for Indiana students who have above a 2.0 grade point average who have never been arrested. These students can attend any Indiana college and have their fees paid 100%. ROADBLOCK REOUEST Tracy Marino asked the Board for permission to hold a roadblock at three locations to raise money for AAU Basketball. Councilperson Sellers said that the City no longer allows roadblocks due to liability issues. C~ITAT!O__N Planning and Zoning Director Hicks said Todd Waldrip has been contacted the last eight months for open storage at his property at 701 Ohio Avenue. Director Hicks said Mr. Waldrip requested several 30- day extensions but was still not in compliance as of June 30, 2005. Another citation was sent July 5, 2005. Mr. Waldrip said he has owned and operated a business for many years in Jeffersonville. He said he is in the process of getting his equipment together to have a sale and plans to lease the building. He said he needs sixty additional days to get everything cleaned up. After discussion Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to give Mr. Waldrip thirty days to comply and if he doesn't he will be fined $100.00 for the first letter and $50.00 for the second letter, seconded by Street Commissioner Ellis and carried unanimously. Mr. Waldrip requested a copy of the ordinance. COMMENTS' Computer Technician Davis said he 'would be off for three weeks for surgery. Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury said his modem is down and needs to be fixed. Parks Director Poff said "Grease" is to be re-scheduled for August. Animal Shelter Director Wilder said the Golf Scramble was very successful. Personnel Director Calabro thanked the Department heads that helped with job shadowing. She said she has King's Island discount tickets also. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Building Commissioner Segraves to adjourn at t 0'15 a.m., seconded by Street Commissioner Ellis and carried unani /'::: MAYO~ [ ATTEST'
