OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JULY 13, 2005
MayOr Waiz and called the meeting to order at 9'35 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
were: Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner, Vehicle Maintenance Director
Drury, Fire Chief Miles, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Coordinator Davis, Personnel ]Director
Calabro, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, City
Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-8-05 as presented,
seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
ALLEY PROBLEM
Warren Volmer of 1503 Utica Pike told the Board there have been several complaints from
his neighbors about the alley and the private drive between 1503 and 1505 Utica Pike. The
entrance to the alley is off Brighton Avenue. Mr. Volmer said recently an intoxicated driver
sped through his private drive and almost hit a pedestrian in the alley. The driver was
arrested. He said speed bumps are'needed and a no trespassing sign. Mayor Waiz said he
would look at the location for possible sign placement and get back with him. Mayor Waiz
told Mr. Volmer that he could place speed bumps on his driveway if he chooses to do so.
STREET DEPARTMENT ISSUE
Tamara Johnson of 532 Main Street said two, 50-gallon storage containers were removed
from her carport on June 21, 2005. She tried to locate the truck to retrieve the containers but
it had already gone to the dump. She spoke with the street department several times and
Street Commissioner Ellis came by her residence. She then called the police who spoke with
the street department employees who removed the containers. The employees admitted
removing the containers and apologized. Ms. Johnson said one of the items in the containers
couldn't be replaced as her grandmother gave it to her. She called her insurance company
and was told that if she filed a claim she would lose her "no claim" status and her rate would
go up. After some discussion Mayor Waiz said he would take this under advisement for one
week and report back.
SOLICITOR'S PERMIT
Charles Dorsey appeared before the Board to seek permission to raise money by selling raffle
tickets to send his 12-year-old son to California in October to appear before 60 entertainment
judges. His son has performed by singing at the RiverStage and the Relay for Life event.
Mayor' Waiz told him he doesn't need a solicitors permit to sell raffle tickets on private
property such as local grocery stores with the stores permission. Mr. Dorsey asked if the City
could help out also. Mayor Waiz said he could talk to him after the meeting.
COMMENTS'
Fire Chief Miles told An. Shelter Director Wilder that he has some guys who want to play in
the golf scramble.
Street Commissioner Ellis said he took pictures of Tamara Johnson's carport and his men did.
throw away her things. He said he has more information for the Mayor.
Administrator Davis said the floor plan concerning h~s space in the new building is different
from what was discussed. He said he has called Wayne Estopinal. He also inquired about the
phone system. Mayor Waiz said he would need three proposals.
Parks Director Poff r'eminded everyone of the concert in the park Friday night and the movie
and car show Saturday.
Mayor Waiz reminded everyone'of Mayor's Night Out on Springdale Drive at 6'30 pm.
Thursday, July 14, 2005. They will meet at the Anderson Temple.
There being no more discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson
Sellers to adjourn at 10'10 a.m., seconded by Engineer Miller and CalTied unanimously.
