HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-15-2005MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JUNE 15, 2005 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9'30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were' Councilperson Sellers and Building Commissioner Segraves sitting in for City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Street Commissioner Ellis, Sewer Inspector Lanum, Fire Chief Miles, Police Chief Ashabranner, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Planning .and Zoning Director .Hicks, Computer Technician Davis, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Personnel Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve the minutes of 6-8-05, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. NEW BUSINESS STREET CLOSURE Tom Galligan appeared before the Board to request that Market Street be closed for one day to put a sewer line in for the Pen'in Pointe project. Detour signs will be put up. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the street closing for one day, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. FENCE AT WALL AND MARKET STREET Tom Galligan said that before the fence at Wall Street and Market Street can be removed the property needs to be insured. City Attorney Merkley said the ordinance vacating Wall Street would need to be rescinded in order to give use of the street back to the City. TEMPLE OF CHRIST CHURCH Steven Robinson representing Temple of Christ Church asked the Board for approval to close one block from Walnut Street to Locust Street on September 18, 2005 from 12-8 pm for a Family Extravaganza. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the closure, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. JULY 3 STREET CLOSURE John Tomlinson of 1014 E. 7th Street asked the Board to approve closing a portion of Graham Street to the cemetery at 7th Street for a neighborhood party on July 3, 2005 from 12-8 pm. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the closure contingent upon Mr. Tomlinson getting a signature from each neighbor in favor of the closure, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. CAR DAMAGE Jerry Pike said his car was parked on the street in front of 739 Meigs Avenue and was damaged by the street sweeper as it passed by. He presented pictures of his car. Street Commissioner Ellis said he doesn't think the car was damaged by the sweeper because of the height of the damage. Mayor Waiz asked Street Commissioner Ellis bring the sweeper back and meet with Mr. Pike to determine if the sweeper could possibly have' done the damage. FALLS CITY MUSTANG CLUB Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the parade route for city limit roads only for July 15,2005, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. UMBAUGH AND ASSOCIATES AGREEMENT Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the agreement with Umbaugh and Associates concerning the sewer bonds, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. TEAM JEFF WRESTLING Mr. Bailey representing the Jeff Wrestling team asked the Board's permission to hold a roadblock on Saturday, June 18, 2005 from 10-3 pm. at Dutch Lane and Hamburg Pike. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the roadblock, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carded unanimously. CITATION Building Commissioner Segraves stated for the record that proper notification was delivered to David Cunningham about his property at 123 E. Chestnut Street for the bad condition of it. Mr. Cunningham did not appear before the Board. A Sheriff' s sale is scheduled for June 30, 2005. COMMENTS' Nellie Knowland said there are portable basketball goals in the street on Fairview Avenue. Mayor Waiz passed out information on job descriptions and what is to be paid for this from each department. Parks Director Poff said there would be a concert, movie, and dance show Friday night downtown. Personnel Director Calabro needs insurance forms from the department heads today. On July 20th, 2005 the 21 st Century Scholars will be here. They will attend the Board meeting. Planning and Zoning Director Hicks said zoning was approved for the Cinema's. Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford asked if a public auction is scheduled. Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry said there isn't and suggested that Mr. Crawford contact Gov. Deals.com. Mayor Waiz said job promotions have to be posted correctly. He reminded everyone that Governor Daniels would be in town tonight at Preservation Station. Animal Shelter Director Wilder said the Golf Scramble is scheduled for July 18, 2005. He needs teams, sponsors, and donation. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by City Engineer Miller to adjourn at 10:20 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
