HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-01-2005MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE INDIANA June 1, 2005 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9'30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Building Commissioner Russ Seagraves, who was sworn in to take the place of absent member Engineer Bob Miller. Also present were' Fire Chief Miles, Police Chief Ashabranner, Parks Director Poff, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Street Department Commissioner Ron Ellis, City Engineer Lanham, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Information Technician Davis, Plan Director Chester Hicks;, City Attorney Merkley and Chief Deputy Clerk Bass. Commissioner Seagraves made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Commissioner Seagraves and carried unanimously. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes as presented seconded by Commissioner Seagraves and passed unanimously. ROAD CLOSURE Mike Cleary a~hd Jason Emily, with Koetter Construction, appeared before the Board requesting closing 8th St between Wall St and Walnut St for three days for the week of June 13-17, 2005. They need to lay pipe in between the gas and water lines and the sewer lines. Mayor Waiz asked if they could get it done in two days. They will take care of all detours and detour signs. The motion was made by Commissioner Seagraves to approve the road closure for 2 - 3 days seconded by Councilperson Sellers and passed unanimously. RESIDENT PARKING ONLY SIGN Robert Patterson, 645 Main St, appeared before the Board to request a Resident Only Parking Sign for his mother at 645 Main St. Mayor Waiz will have the Police check out the parking situation surrounding this address. The motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to approve the sign, pending approval by the Police Department, seconded by Commissioner Seagraves and carded unanimously. CHURCH DIRECTIONAL SIGN Virgil Hertling, 1 st Presbyterian Church appeared before the Board requesting a directional sign at Walnut and Chestnut to his church. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the request seconded by Commissioner Seagraves and' carried unanimously. Attorney Merkley stepped out of the meeting. RESIDENT ONLY PARKING SIGN Jeremy Andres and Ronita Pratt, 534 E Court Ave, appeared before the Board to request two resident only signs in front of their resident. Mayor Waiz Said that he would look into an alternative place for them to park. They would be willing to park in the back if this could be worked out. PEDDLER'S PERMIT James Daine, Southwestern Co., appeared before the Board to request a peddler's permit to sell books to help kids with their schoolwork. The motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to approve the permit, seconded by Commissioner Seagraves and carded unanimously. HAMBURG PIKE PROJECT Tom Schellenberg, Jacobi, Tombs, and Lanz, appeared before the Board with an update on plans for the Hamburg Pike Reconstruction. They have met with the state concerning the major changes to the plan and how it affects the design. He also met with Walnut Ridge Cemetery to discuss the design along the cemetery property. He discussed the design of the bridge. Attorney Merkley returned to the meeting during Mr. Schellenberg's presentation. Chief Miles reminded'everyone about the Crusade for Children this weekend. They are selling raffle tickets and collecting money at roadblocks. Director Drury informed the Board that one of his mechanics was in an accident this weekend and is in the hospital. He apologized if they are a little behind on their workload. Director Poff reminded everyone about the first outdoor movie of the summer this Friday and also of the show at the Riverstage on Saturday evening. Mayor Waiz informed those present that July 8 is employee appreciation at the Bat's baseball game. Information will be put in the employee's checks soon. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Commissioner Seagraves~p/ad~ :10 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. ATTEST' CLERK T~~URER
