OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
MARCH 9, 2005
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9'30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were:
Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were' Fire Chief Miles, Police Chief Ashabranner, Parks Director Poll, Vehicle
Maintenance Director Drury, Street Department Director' Ellis, Animal Shelter Office Manager
Gartehnan, Building Commissioner Segraves, Computer Technician Davis, Personnel Director Calabro,
Redevelopment Director Cahill, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Sellers
and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the 'minutes of March 2, 2005, seconded
'by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimous;fy.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
DARE TO CARE FOOD DRIVE
Shannon Hodge appeared before the Board. to thank everyone for their donations last year.
She said she hopes to double those numbers this year. She will be selli~ng donation cards this
year in addition to the ibod drive.
RELAY FOR LIFE
Pat VanGilder appeared before the Board to request permission to hang a banner in late April
about the Relay For Life. Engineer Miller said he wo;fld try to find a location for the banner
and will report back next week.
VENDOR PERMIT
Marion Baker ot'711 Indiana Avenue requested a vendor permit to sell t-shirts, etc in the
City. The Board suggested that he try to find a privately owned location and report back to
the Board.
PROMOTION
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to promote Todd Hollis to Corporal effective March
16, 2005, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
COMMENTS'
Fire Chief Miles said Meth Lab classes are cun:entty being held at the McCaul. ey Nicholas
building.
Building Commissioner Segraves reported tbr Planning and Zoning Director Hicks who was
attending a meeting that the Downtown Parking Study Advisory Committee is having a
kickoff meeting today at 2'00 pm at the Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc. building. Nine people
have agreed to participate in the study. He said the deadline for responses to the RFP for the
Wheels and Heels trail project is March 18, 2005. A task force will be established to oversee
the development of the Comprehensive Plan update.
Animal Shelter Office Manager Gartchnan reported that there will be an Open House at the
Animal Shelter on May 14, 2005 from 10-2 p.~..n....
Police Chief Ashabranner said that due to a Homeland Security grant he will be able to
purchase another k-9 dog.
Engineer Miller said the Spring Street merchants have requested that the Christmas lights be
left on year round if possible. Mayor Waiz said he would need to look into this request.
Fire Chief Miles said there would be a tornado-warning test today.
