OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
FEBRUARY 23, 2005
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were:
Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Segraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street
Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Wastewater Treatment
Director Crawford, Personnel Director Calabro, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff,
Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Fire Chief Miles, and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 2-9-05 and 2-16-05 as
presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously.
PERRIN LANE SPEEDiNG
Frances Duley and Michelle Harbeson appeared before the Board in regard to speeding on Pen:in Lane.
They said that even though some action has been taken such as ummanned radar detection and intcreased
patrols they are still having problmns with speeding. A long term solution is needed. After some
discussion Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a three-way stop at Rudy Lane, a pedestrian
crosswalk at the entrance to the park, and children at play signs, seconded by Conncilperson Sellers and
carried unanimously.
WATT STREET CLOSURE
Tony Snelling who works for Parco Construction asked the Board to approve giving up one parking
space on Watt Street for the jail construction work. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve giving
one parking space on Watt Street, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
Comm~ats:
Fire Chief Miles thanked the Police department for help at the fire Monday night at Colonial Park.
Personnel Director Calabro said the hospital would begin Smoking Cessation classes on March 7, 2005.
The classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays for three weeks.
Personnel Director Calabro thanked Kevin Morlan and Ron Ellis for the new safety vests.
Personnel Director Calabro said IUS is interested in placing some student interns with some city
departments. They plan to intern 8 to 30 hours per week. If any department is interested they should
contact Ms. Calabro.
Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford said he is trying to get word out to residents of the city to call
EMC first with any plumbing problems. He said there are plumbing companies going to homes for
blockage problems that they are not able to fix but are still charging the customer and telling them that
the problem is with the city lines which it may or may not be.
Police Chief Ashabranneer said the State Police is having three classes in March on Methamphetamine
Labs. Chief Ashabranner said he is making this class mandatory for his people.
Councilperson Sellers asked if anyone has an extra computer that has a port for pictures that the Animal
Shelter can use.
Mayors Night In will be held at Clark Arms tonight at 6:00 p.m.
Animal Shelter Director Wilder said some parks department employees painted the walls at the animal
shelter and did a good job.
Animal Shelter Director Wilder said Jeffersonville High School has a program for suspended kids to put
in time at the animal shelter.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to
adjoum~~d by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously.
