OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JANUARY 26, 2005
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were:
Councilperson Sellers and Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Building Commissioner segraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Wastewater
Treatment Director Crawford, Assistant Police Chief Lovan, Fire Chief Miles, Coordinator Davis,
Personnel Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Planning And Zoning Director Hicks,
Street Department employee George Trembly, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Directer Poff,
City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 1-19-05, seconded by City
Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
AMERICAN HEART WALK
Jane Comett appeared before the Board in regard to the American Heart Walk scheduled for September
10, 2005. The walk will begin at 9:30 am and end about 11:30 am. The walk is three miles. Ms.
Comett has approval from Louisville to close the 2nd Street Bridge and requested the approval of the
City of Jeffto close Exit 1 and Missouri Avenue from 9:30 till 11:30 am. Engineer Miller said he would
need to call the State for approval to close Exit I. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the
closure, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
.PROMOTIONS
Assistant Police Chief Lovan asked the Board to approve promotions for four officers to be effective
February 1, 2005. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the promotions, seconded by
Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
GIS CONTRACT
Planning and Zoning Director Hicks asked the Board to approve the contract with Jacobi, Toombs, and
Lanz for GIS services. The contract is not to exceed $10,000.00. Councilperson Sellers made the
motion to approve the contract, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
PLAN COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
Mayor Waiz asked the Board to approve Dennis Dierking as a Plan Commission Board mmnber.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the appointment, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and
carried unanimously.
COMMENTS:
Fire Chief Miles said he would be promoting three Sergeants' in February.
Administrator Davis said the Estopinal Group sent over some people wanting to know what kind of
hallway and building monitoring and security system is wanted for the proposed new city hall. Mayor
Waiz said he would need to explore all the options.
Parks Director Poff said his department in conjunction with the Red Cross is planning to have a blood
drive at the Fieldhouse in February.
George Trembly said notices were posted last week under the bridges about when cleanup begins.
Street Commissioner Ellis asked him to let the Board know that the tree is down at Exit 0.
George Trembly said there would be a FEMA meeting Friday, January 28, 2005 at the ]Emergency
Management building in Charlestown at 1:00 pm.
George Trembly said the OSHA Form 300 would be passed out February 3, 2005 at the Safety meeting.
Personnel Director Calabro said the forms must be posted in a visible area.
Personnel Director Calabro said Mitch RipleY would return on February 5, 2005 for the final draft on the
Policy and Procedure manual. She said all employees would need to sign off on the finished manual
stating that they have read it.
Personnel Director Calabro said the Department of Transportation employee's drug and alcohol policy
has been written but there will need to be one written for non-DOT employees.
Personnel Director Calabro said Health Insurance information is going out to six different markets this
week. She said there would be an open enrollment meeting hopefully the first or second week of March.
All employees will be required to attend one meeting.
Engineer Miller said a city employee who lives at 9th and Cherry Street said there is a basketball goal in
the street, which makes it difficult for him to back out of his driveway. Assistant Police Chief Lovan
said he would take care of it.
Mayor Waiz reminded everyone of Mayor's Night In tonight at 6:30 pm. at the Riverbend Assisted
Living facility.
Councilperson Sellers said there are some dried mounds of concrete on Veteran's Parkway by the
sidewalk that need to be removed.
Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry said the gas cards are going on computer tomorrow.
There being no further discussion to come befor~ the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to
adjou~., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
