HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-27-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY ~OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA OCTOBER 27, 2004 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call o£the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Engineer Miller. Also present were: Building Commissioner Segraves, Street Commissioner Ellis, Po!lice Chief Ashabranner, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Fire Chief Miles, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Coordinator Davis, Personnel Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Becker, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 10-20-04, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS BIRCHWOOD DRIVE Brenda Hollis of 1111 Birchwood Drive spoke to the Board about concerns of neighbors speeding on her street. She would like a speed limit sign or a speed bump. Mayor Waiz said a 15 M.P.H. speed limit sign would be put up. He asked Mrs. Hollis is she could obtain the name and license plate number of the people speeding for the police department. She said she could. COMMENTS: Fire Chief Miles said there would be a charity basketball game Thursday evening at 6:45 p.m. at Parkview Middle School. The Fire Department will take on Robbie Valentine's team. Fire Chief Miles asked Police Chief Ashabranner if Kevin Morlan is ready to begin making the ID cards. He said yes. Street Department Director Ellis said he has one more garbage track down. He said the equipment auction is going fine. Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury said Les Albro and Lynn Crawford who reside in Lily Run approached him. They said they are having difficulty in backing out of their driveways. They would like a couple of signs put up such as "Slow Traffic Ahead". Mayor Waiz said it would be looked into. Administrator Davis said new sof~ware is needed in order for the police department to access information about the police cars from Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury. Davis thinks the software will cost around $1,000.00. Administrator Davis said he would like tO switch cell phone companies. He is unhappy with Nextel. Mayor Waiz asked him to hold offuntil something is resolved. Parks Director Poff said the Halloween party Tuesday night at the Field House went well. Personnel Director Calabro passed out Health Fair flyers. It will be held on November 5, 2004 in the Mayor's conference room. Personnel Director Calabro said there is a CDL position open. Personnel Director Calabro said Chiropractor Robbie Brown has requested to meet with department heads to go over stress management and safety tips. Mayor Waiz said if any department heads are interested they could contact Dr. Brown. Personnel Director Calabm said there is an ADA training session scheduled for November 9, 2004 for department heads and supervisors. Police Chief Ashabranner thanked Parks Director Poff for the Halloween Downtown success. Police Chief Ashabranner said three new hirees are graduating from the Academy. Engineer Miller said a decision needs to be made on the Tenth Street light. The bid received is only good for 45 days. Street Commissioner Ellis said Trevillian Court and Penn Street have been milled. Councilperson Sellers said she received a call from a man who resides in the Mobile Home Park (lot 107) off Dutch Lane in regard to trees that are hanging over onto a couple of homes. Engineer Miller will take care of this. Mayor Waiz announced the Groundbreaking Ceremony at Key Communication in North Port today. Mayor Waiz said Chester Hicks has been hired as the new Planning and Zoning Director. He is to start on November 15, 2004. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to adjourn at.~10:O0'a~.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
