HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-29-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA SEPTEMBER 29, 2004 In Mayor Waiz's absence Councilperson Sellers called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Asst. Fire Chief Decker sitting in for Councilperson Sellers and Building Commissioner Segraves sitting in for City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner, Personnel Director Calabro, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Asst Parks Director Couts, Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Davis, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve the minutes of 9-15-04 and 9- 22-04, seconded by Asst. Fire Chief Decker and carded unanimously. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Asst. Fire Chief Decker and carried unanimously. BENEFITS PLAN Thomas Doyon of Armed Forces Benefits Association, First Responders Division spoke to the Board in regard to life insurance benefits available to City of Jeffersonville employees. Mr. Doyon said it can be deducted from the payroll or it can be billed to the employee individually. Personnel Director Calabro said open enrollment is in April for all insurances. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to table this until Mayor Waiz can look at it, seconded by Asst. Fire Chief Decker and carded unanimously. SBC PHONE SERVICE Jason Roush, a representative of SBC came before the Board to request a peddler permit to go door to door to help existing customers lower their phone bill. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve the peddler permit, seconded by Asst. Fire Chief Decker and carded unanimously. The fee is $25.00 per year. REMOVAL OF DEAD TREE Street Conimissioner Ellis said he can't remove the dead tree at Mechanic and Maple Street due to it's size. Curry Tree Service said they could remove it for $600.00. Building Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve getting Curry Tree Service to remove the tree, after getting approval from Councilperson Keith Fetz, seconded by Asst. Fire Chief Decker and carded unanimously. Comments: Planning and Zoning Director Padgett announced his resignation. Personnel Dir. Calabro said the Planning and Zoning Director position is open as well as an opening for a code enforcement officer. Personnel Director Calabro said three teams are needed for the Heart Walk on October 16, 2004. She said a chili luncheon would be held on Friday, October 1, 2004 in the Mayor's Conference Room. There is a donation of $$.00 per person for the Heart Association. On October 9, 2004 is Breast Cancer Awareness Day. On that day jeans may be worn to work with a $$.00 donation. Street Commissioner Ellis told the Board he would like leaves to be bagged or put in some type of container. This was tabled until next week to get more information on the existing ordinance. Street Commissioner Ellis said he is getting proposals on yard waste disposal. Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury said he needs fuel funds. This is to be brought up before the City Council said Councilperson Sellers. Nellie Knowland asked the police dept. to step up patrols in her neighborhood because of unruly kids. Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford thanked Larry Thomas of the Evening News for the article on the Safety Celebration. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Building Commissioner Segraves to adjourn at 10:00 a.m., seconded by Asst. Fire Chief Decker and carded unanimously.
