OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
AUGUST 11, 2004
Mayor Rob Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the
roll, those present were City Engineer Bob Miller and Councilperson Connie
Sellers.
Present were: Planning and Zoning Director Chris Padgett, Vehicle
Maintenance Director Mike Drury, Police Chief Rick Ashabranner,
Personnel Director Kim Calabro, Building Commissioner Russ Seagraves,
Fire Chief Clark Miles, Park Superintendent Rob Poll, Redevelopment
DirectOr Barry Cahill, Animal Shelter Director Harry Wilder, Street
Department Director Ron Ellis, Information Technology Director Rich
Davis, Wastewater Treatment Director Tim Crawford, City Attorney Les
Merkley, and Deputy Clerk Barbara Hollis.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the claims as presented,
second by Engineer Miller, passing unanimously.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented,
seconded by Councilperson Sellers, passing unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS
DRINKING WATER PRESENTATION
Mr. David Payne, Vice President of Aqua Perfect, distributed information
and gave a presentation on the company's $35.00 flat fee service. Mayor
Waiz expressed his appreciation for the presentation.
REQUEST FOR TEMPORARY STOP SIGNS
Mr. Steve Kempf appeared before the Board to request temporary stop signs
at Market and Wall Streets. Mr. Kempf explained the need during
construction promising to remove the signs each evening and replacing them
the next morning. Mayor Waiz expressed his concern for consistency.
Engineer Miller does not feel this is a problem during daylight hours, also
suggesting placement of men working and stop ahead signs. Mr. Kempf
also requested the curb on the north side of Market between Wall Street and
the Knights Of Columbus drive be painted yellow due to the narrow street.
Following discussion, Mayor Waiz said he will look at the area. Mr. Kempf
will return to the next Board o£Works meeting.
COMMENTS
Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury said after running the chipper and track
for six days a week, twelve hours a day, both the chipper and chipper track
have blown motors. Mayor Waiz directed Director Drury to replace the
motor in the track.
Street Department Director Ron Ellis has a quote to purchase a wood
chipper for approximately $27,000. He does have the funds available in his
budget. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the purchase of a wood
chipper, second by Councilperson Sellers, passing unanimously.
Street Department Director Ron Ellis next explained there are trees blocking
the view of the stop sign on Magnolia Street. Mayor Waiz referred Director
Ellis to the Tree Board.
Information Technology Director Rich Davis said he will be talking to
Toshiba this month. The email system is working great and the web site is
up and running.
Animal Shelter Director Harry Wilder reported the rear building is almost
done and the air conditioning is being worked on.
Wastewater Treatment Director Tim Crawford thanked Engineer Miller for
helping with the wood chip clean up. Director Crawford invited Mayor
Waiz and Engineer Miller to a walk thru.
Engineer Miller reported a pipe down on Highland. This is 21 feet deep and
will be expensive to repair. There is a need to realign about 300 feet.
Councilperson Sellers has a need for a used computer at the animal shelter.
Chief Ashabranner will provide one.
As there was no further business to come before the Board of Public Works
and Safety, the meeting was adjournS.
