OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE. INDIANA
JULY 28, 2004
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were:
Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Segraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Street
Commissioner Ellis. Police Chief Ashabranner. Personnel Director Calabro. Animal Shelter Director
Wilder. Fire Chief Miles. Asst Parks Director Couts. City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 7.21-04, seconded by
Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
HANDICAP PARKING
Charles Moody requested Residenl Only parking for Apt. A-1 at 423 E. Chestnut Street.
Miller said he would check into and notify Mr. Moody of his findings.
Engineer
ROAD CLOSURE FOR CONSTRUCTION
Steve Kempf appeared before the Board to request putting up a portable 6 ft. chain link fence around the
old Gorsuch Foundry, which is being tom down for the construction of condos. A portion of Market
Street and the back alleyway will need to be blocked. He would like to start on Monday, August 9,
2004. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve erecting the fence around the condo project on
Market Street and back alleyway, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Mr.
Kemp said he would have Mr. Miller come down and inspect the directional signs the day the fence is
erected.
Comments:
Nellie Knowland said people in the apartments near her residence are putting large trashcans out and
leaving the lids open. Water is getting in them and when emptied paper and other debris is spilling into
Ms. Knowland's paper box. Street Commissioner Ellis said a lot of the resident's are leaving their cans
out all week too. Mayor Waiz said a letter would be sent out to the owner of the apartments.
Police Chief Ashabranner said the new sub station would be opening on Monday. It is located off
Highway 62 near Wellstone Hospital.
City Attorney Merkley said while re-writing the new employee handbook, it was brought to his attention
that in the current handbook the City has not been following the policy set forth on demotions,
suspensions, and terminations for city employees. The Mayor will make the determination on
suspensions, demotions, and terminations. The department heads will make the recommendations to the
Mayor. Police and Fire Department employees are separate due to their contracts and statutes. Any'
employee demoted or terminated can request a hearing.
Mayor Waiz said there is a Groundbreaking ceremony today at Metropolitan Urology.
Mayor Waiz said Governor Kernan would be at the Clark County Airport at 6 pm. Thursday, July 29.

Mayor Waiz said the first budget session was held last night. A schedule should be gotten together in
the next couple of days.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by City Engineer
Miller to ~,,~/seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
