OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JUNE 30, 2004
In Mayor Waiz's absence Councilperson Sellers called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and
on call of the roll those members present Were: Building Commissioner Segraves sitting in
for City Engineer Miller and Redevelopment Director Becker sitting in for Councilperson
Sellers.
Present: Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett,
Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Davis, Animal Shelter Director
Wilder, Police Chief Ashabranner, City Attorney Merkley, Personnel Director Calabro,
Fireman Phil Lovan, Fireman De,mis Dierking, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
Redevelopment Director Becker made the motion to approve the minutes of 5-26-04 and
6-16-04, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
Redevelopment Director Becker made the motion to approve the payroll as presented,
seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
VENDOR PERMIT
Jerry Fain of 2020 Gutford Road came before the Board to request a vendor permit to sell
barbeque at Industrial Park. Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said he would check to
see who owns the right of way by pulling up the plat. Planning and Zoning Director Padgett
suggested that Mr. Fain try to contact a property owner and get permission to set up on their
property. City Attorney Merkley recommended tabling this until next week. Redevelopment
Director Becker made the motion to table this until next week, seconded by Building
Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
FUNDRAISER
Police Chief Ashabranner said Katie Daily contacted him in regard to having a fundraiser to
raise money for canine vests. Katie Daily and Katie Walker appeared before the Board with
a brief presentation. They plan to have a bake sale and raffle. Redevelopment Director
Becker made the motion to approve the fundraiser and the canine vests chosen by Chief
Ashabranner, seconded by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
NEW HIRE
Police Chief Ashabranner asked the Board to approve hiring Keith Broady as a police officer
to replace Charles Elder who is retiring. He is to start July 9th, 2004. Redevelopment
Director Becker made the motion to approve the hiring of Keith Broady, seconded by
Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
SEWER REFUNDiNG BOND
City Attorney Merkley presented the Sewer Refunding Bond by H.J. Umbaugh and
Associates for signatures and approval of their financial advisory services. Redevelopment
Director Becker made the motion to approve the Sewer Refunding Bond Services, seconded
by Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
COMMENTS:
Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury asked Police Chief Ashabranner if the retiring
officer's car would be available for one of his employees's to use. Chief Ashabranner
said he would let him know.
John L. Lewis told Police Chief Ashabranner there is a pickup track at 919 Watt Street
that has been parked there for six months. Chief Ashabrarmer said he would look into it.
An. Shelter Director Wilder said there is a dog problem on Mockingbird Drive at the
residence of Dennis Guthrie. He said the police officer that responded to the address
didn't handle the situation very well. Mr. Guthrie has four dogs.
Police Chief Ashabranner said the K-9 Workshop went well. He thanked everyone who
helped and said he received a lot of compliments on our city.
City Attorney Merkley said he would be presenting at the next meeting a Resolution to
adopt policies and procedures to be effective July 1, 2004. He said Mayor Waiz wants to
try something called Reverse Auction On-Line where notices are sent out to bidders for
city purchases. The bidders will have a certain time frame in which to bid online.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety,
Redevelopment Director Becker made the motion to adjourn at 10:10 a.m., seconded by
Building Commissioner Segraves and carried unanimously.
