HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-16-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JUNE 16, 2004 In Mayor Waiz's absence, Engineer Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Redevelopment Director Becker sitting in for City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Sellers. Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Police Chief Ashabrarmer, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Redevelopment Director Becker, Building Commissioner Segraves, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Parks Director Poff, Street Commissioner Ellis, Fire Chief Miles, Personnel Director Calabro, Youth Director Knight, City Attorney Merkley, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 6-9-04 as presented, ~-- seconded by Redevelopment Director Becker and carried unanimously. MILLING CONTRACT Engineer Miller said he has looked over the Milling contract of Mid America Milling Co., LLC and made the motion to award the contract to them, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. BRIDGE CLOSURE Sandra Leppert appeared before the Board to request that the Second Street Bridge be closed on Saturday, June 19, 2004 for about two hours from 9:00-11:30 a.m. for the Bridge Gap Walk. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the Second Street Bridge closure, seconded by Redevelopment Director Becket and carried unanimously. HANDICAPPED PARKING REQUEST Donnie Willis of 2007 Jonquil Drive requested a Handicapped Parking sign in front of his residence. Police Chief Ashabranner will check the location and report back to the Board. ROSE HILL NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION Bill Whittaker asked the Board to approve banners being put up in the Rose Hill subdivision. The barmers will say, "Welcome to Historic Rose Hill". Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the banners, seconded by Redevelopment Director Becker and carried unanimously. KIPDA CONTRACT Planning and Zoning Director Padgett asked the Board to approve the KIPDA contract. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the contract, seconded by Redevelopment Director Becker and carded unanimously. STREET CLOSURE Engineer Miller said he received a report from Quality Environmental Professionals on the Shell station at Tenth and Main Streets. He said they would need to bore a hole. Arrow boards and cones will be set up. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve closing the street, seconded by Redevelopment Becker and carried unanimously. STREET CLOSURE Youth Coordinator Knight asked the Board to approve street closures (attached) for the 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament to be held on July 16 and 17th, 2004. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the street closures, seconded by Redevelopment Director Becker and carried unanimously. LUNCH CONCERT Youth Coordinator Knight said there would be a lunch concert in Warder Park on Thursday, June 24, 2004. She asked that the streets around Warder Park be blocked off for carpool vehicles. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve blocking the necessary' streets, seconded by Redevelopment Director Becker and carried unanimously. Cones will be set up by the Street Department. Coordinator Knight encouraged everyone to get in on the free lunch drawing. COMMENTS: Planning and Zoning Director Padgett voiced concern about the Methadone Clinic traffic at Tenth Street and Reeds Lane. Police Chief Ashabranner said that area is patrolled regularly. Police Chief Ashabranner said he would have Capt. Moreland contact Director Padgett. Parks Director Poff said the 2004 Outdoor Movie. Series is to begin soon. He asked if the lights could be shut off on Terrace Lawn for the first movie. The Board didn't see a problem with it. Personnel Director Calabro passed out Six Flags tickets. Fire Chief Miles said street addresses need to be corrected in Motel 6 area. (Frontage Road and 131). City Attorney Merkley said a Special Meeting would be held July 13, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. regarding the disciplinmy matter of Officer Jason VanGilder. City Attorney Merkley told everyone not to forget the Heritage Festival. City Attorney Merkley advised all department heads to remind their people not to drive city vehicles under the influence. / Rose Hill Neighborhood resident said there are a lot of cars in the Rose Hill neighborhood with Kentucky license plates. Police Chief Ashabranner said the vehicles must be there for 60 days before anything can be done about it.
