HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-19-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MAY 19, 2004 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Rich Davis, Building Commissioner Segraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner, Personnel Director Calabro, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Asst. Fire Chief Decker, Fire Chief Miles, Parks Director Poll, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 5-5-04, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. PARADE PERMIT Paul Northam appeared before the Board to request a parade permit for Saturday, May 22, 2004. The parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. He requested some street closings and would like a police escort. Police Chief Ashabranner said he would take care of the police escort. He said about forty vehicles will be in the parade. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the parade and street closures, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. ConllD. erlt s: Mayor Waiz asked Parks Director Poff where the 3 on 3 basketball tournament is to be held. He said it's pl~¢ned currently to be held at Wall Street and Court Avenue. Mayor Waiz asked the department heads to look for money in their budget to pay for additional fuel costs. /.~.,. Mayor Waiz said he received a letter from Mable Gedling saying thanks for the repair of concrete in her yard. Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said there has been some confusion about where Veteran's Parkway ends. He said it ends at the intersection of Charlestown New Albany Pike. Building Commissioner Segraves asked who is responsible for boat dock maintenance. City Attorney Merkley said it is the renter's responsibility. Attorney Merkley said if given the names he ~vould send out letters to the ones that need maintenance. Street Commissioner Ellis said he would start paving Hamburg Pike on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 7 a.m. Traffic will be limited. Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury asked department heads to let him know about any unused vehicles so he can take them offthe insurance. Coordinator Davis said the web site is up for the most part and wants to keep it updated. Parks Director Poff said he would like to get with Police Chief Ashabranner and Street Commissioner Ellis on the Beautification Project. Animal Shelter Director Wilder said there would be an Open House at the shelter on Saturday, May 22, 2004. Asst. Fire Chief Decker said the Beautification Project kickoff is Saturday, May 22, 2004. The road closures are on Thursday between Spring and Pearl Street and on Saturday from Spring to Locust Street. Mr. Billingsley said he bid on the Riverfront grass cutting. He recommended that in the future all bidders get the same bidding information. Personnel Director Caiabro reminded everyone that the "Taste of Jeffersonville" would be Thursday, May 20, 2004 from 6-10 p.m. Personnel Director Calabro thanked Chief Ashabranner aa~d Chief Miles for meeting with Dr. McClain of EmployCare. Personnel Director Calabro asked who implements OSHA rules and who does safety inspections. She said there needs to be a policy in place with a point person who communicates with all departments. Wastewater Treatment Plant Director Crawford said there is a training seminm' that would probably be helpful to all department heads. Chief Ashabranner said there are no speed limit signs on Riverside Drive. Engineer Miller said the speed limit should be 25 miles per hour and the signs would be put up. City Attorney Merkley said the Law Department has had a complaint filed against it for ADA non- compliance. Conncilperson Sellers said a tree has been cut down at 309 Park Place and needs to be picked up. Street Commissioner Ellis said he is taking care of it. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by City Engineer Miller to adjo~ ,0film., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously.
