OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
APRIL 28, 2004
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roi1 those members present were:
Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Building Commissioner Segraves,
Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner,
Administrator Davis, Fire Chief Miles, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Redevelopment Director
Becker, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk
Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 4-14-04, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
TOWING OF CARS DURING THUNDER
Elizabeth Engelhart, who resides in the Harbours, appeared before the Board in regard to two
cars that were towed from Market Street the day of Thunder. Ms. Engelhart had out of town
guests that day. There were two vehicles towed and cost them $200.00 to get out. She asked
if she could be reimbursed for it. Police Chief Ashabranner said signs were posted along
Market Street four days prior to Thunder. Ms. Engelhart said no signs were posted. Mayor
Waiz said the city could not compensate her for the cars being towed because signs were
posted.
VENDOR PERMIT
Milton Dietrich asked the Board to approve a vendor permit for him to sell hot dogs from a mobile cart
near the Court House and maybe the Farmer's Market. Parks Director Poff said he would need to check
with the Parks Board to sell at Warder Park. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the vendor
permit, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Fire Chief Miles reminded Mr.
Dietrich the check with the Health Department.
Comments:
Fire Chief Miles asked on Asst. Chief. Decker's behalf, about who will take the bushes out on Court
Avenue for beautification. Parks Director Poff said his department could help out.
Fire Chief. Miles said there ~vould be designated smoking areas at the fire stations. He asked City
Attorney Merkley to look over the paperwork.
Building Commissioner Segraves said he has hired Les Kavanaugh Sr. as Code Enf,orcement Officer.
He starts next Wednesday.
Building Commissioner Segraves inquired about the status of the Abandoned Car Ordinance. He sent
City Attorney Merkley a revised change. City Attorney Merkley said it would be put on the Council
agenda. Mayor Waiz would like Building Commissioner Segraves to attend the Council meeting.
Mayor Waiz told Building Commissioner Segraves that there is some trash in some yards on Main
Street. He said Sandy Knott has the addresses.
City Attorney Merkley inquired about the stove in the f,ront yard on Hamburg Pike. Planning and
Zoning Director Padgett said they have been cited.
Street Commissioner Ellis said the street milling bids need to go out as quickly as possible.
Street Commissioner Ellis said the new contract needs to be negotiated for the building the Street
Department occupies.
Street Commissioner Ellis said the new garbage cans should arrive today.
Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury said he received everything for the police cars and the cars should
be on the street in two weeks. The other cars should be stripped out and ready for auction.
Administrator Davis said he still needs web site information on a couple of'departments. Mayor Waiz
said he has the information for him.
Parks Director Poff said a nexv Aquatics Director has been hired. He said all city employees get 50% off
on pool passes.
Police Chief Ashabranner reported that the Records Department would be open f,rom 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
Street Commissioner Ellis asked if City ID cards could be given to city employees. Chief Ashabranner
said it's being worked on.
Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford said all the cars are gone. He said they would be televising
Tenth Street for 3 days. Two of the f,our lanes will be constricted.
Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said the Riverview Condos have been approved by the Planning
Commission.
City Engineer Miller said he thinks the City shOuld purchase a message board that tells the speed being
done by motorists. He thinks it would be well worth the money.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by City Engineer
Miller to~ a.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
