HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-05-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MAY 5, 2004 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Engineer Miller. Also present were: Building Commissioner Segraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street Commissioner Ellis, Asst. Police Chief Lovan, EMC Collection System Supervisor Wright, Youth Coordinator Knight, Coordinator Davis, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Redevelopment Director Becker, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poll, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. ~ity Engineer Miller made the motion to amend and pass the minutes of 4-21-04, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. The amendment states that Councilperson Sellers spoke with the Drainage Board about the water problem at Trevillian Court and that Street Commissioner Ellis and Engineer Miller have agreed to work together on the paving and curbs. 1025 WINDSOR CIRCLE Attorney Mike Gillenxvater appeared on behalf of Bill Densford who lives on Windsor Circle. Mr. Densford owns a piece of property and his garage extends over a six ft. easement that backs up to a 15 ft. alley. Mr. Densford asked Attorney Gillenwater what to do in the event he would want to sell his property. Attorney Gillenwater asked the Board to recommend to the City Council to vacate the easement. Attorney Gillenwater has written letters to all of the utility companies asking if they have any objection to this. He has given City Attorney Merkley copies of some documents to be reviewed. Attorney Gillenwater will come back at a later date. 3ON3BASKETBALLEVENTS Youth Coordinator Knight presented the street closings for the 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on May 22,2004. She asked approval to close Court Avenue from Spring Street to Wall Street (after concert in park) from 9 p.m. till 11 p.m. on May 21, 2004 and then close Court Avenue from Spring Street to Wall Street and Wall Street from Federal Place to Court Avenue on May 22, 2004 from 6 p.m. till 4 pm. Mayor Waiz said the Beautification kick off day was scheduled for May 22, 2004. As part of the kick off was to be the cleanup of the islands on Court Avenue. Mayor Waiz said maybe the Beautification kick-offcould be moved back. Coordinator Knight said the location of the 3 On 3 could be moved to the Field House if need be. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the street closures for the 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament pending Mayor Waiz talking with the Beautification Committee, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. HIRING REPLACEMENT OFFICER Assistant Police Chief Lovan said he is waiting to hem' from the State Pension Board to formally hire Steve Cooper as a police officer. COMMENTS: Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury asked Department Heads for their auction lists. Coordinator Davis said he has bids on Hardwire Internet service. Parks Director Poff said he found Special Events agreement to be filled out for any special event and turned in to the City Attorney for insurance purposes. Nellie Knowland said a streetlight is out at Hamburg Pike and Fairview Avenue. Engineer Miller to repair. Fireman Dierking asked the Board to review and adopt the No Smoking policy for the Fire Department. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the policy, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Mayor Waiz announced that an Animal Shelter employee passed away and that a small service will be held at Sacred Heart Church. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to adjourn at 9:45 a.m. seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
