HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-21-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA APRIL 21, 2004 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Rich Davis, Building Commissioner Segraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner, Personnel Director Calabros, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Redevelopment Director Becker, Fire Chief Miles, Parks Director Poff, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 4-7-04, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. PEDDLER PERMIT Dale Guyer asked the Board's approval of a peddler permit to paint addresses on curbs in the City. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the peddler permit, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. The fee for the peddler permit is $25.00. SWEEP AGREEMENT BETWEEN INDOT AND CITY OF JEFF City Attorney Merkley presented an agreement for approval between INDOT and the City of Jeffersonville for the next year starting 7-1-04 thru 6-30-05 with renewal option of three years. It is to maintain and clean areas coming on and off the interstate. Street Commissioner Ellis said his department has been doing the cleaning and then 1NDOT is billed. He said he would like to come to some type of agreement with INDOT about grass cutting those areas. Street Commissioner Ellis would like to gather more information so Mayor Waiz said this approval would be tabled until next week. HIRING OF APPRAISERS Mayor Waiz said two state certified appraisers need to be hired to appraise three houses and three garages on Chestnut Street (behind the fire scene). He suggested appraisers Cram and Bottorff. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve hiring Crum and Bottorff Appraisers, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. COMMENTS: Planning and Zoning Director Padgett asked Mayor Waiz if the City still does paving projects. Mayor Waiz said paving would most likely be hired out because the City doesn't save any money by doing it. Administrator Rich Davis said all Department Heads need to get their web site information in. He said he has also gotten two quotes on more Intemet service. Nellie Knowland said she is concerned about speeding in her neighborhood. Police Chief Ashabranner said he would look into it. Parks Director Poff asked about the upkeep of Terrace Lawn. Mayor Waiz said he would be meeting with some people on this. Parks Director Poff said the football fields are to be reconfigured. He's trying to come up with something that will work with the drainage issue. Personnel Director Calabro passed out "Privacy Notices" to all Department Heads and said they will be going out to all city employees. Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford said one or two cars were brought in and three or four were taken out of the lot last week. Mayor Waiz said none are suppose to be brought in. Attorney Merkley will send out a letter. Police Chief Ashabranner said Thunder went very well and lots of compliments were received. Councilperson Sellers spoke with the Drainage Board about the water problem at Suburban Court and that Street Commissioner Ellis and Engineer Miller have agreed to work together on the paving and curbs. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by City Engineer Miller to adjourn at 10:00 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and can'ied unanimously.
