HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA APRIL 14, 2004 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Engineer Miller. Also present were: Building Commissioner Segraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street Dept. Supervisor Galligan, Police Chief Ashabranner, Personnel Director Calabro, Fire Chief Miles, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Redevelopment Director Becker, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to amend the minutes of 4-7-04 to say three dogs instead of four on the item about Mr. West's animal citation, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. REVIVAL Ivan Hill of Calvary Christian Center asked the Board's approval to hold a tent revival in the Claysburg area on May 28,29, and 30th' Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the tent revival contingent upon Mr. Hill talking with Fire Chief Miles seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. KENTUCKIANA YACHT SALES Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a 2004 permit for Kentuckiana Yacht Sales to transport oversize boats, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. PAPER BOXES Tony Minnick of Life Springs requested the removal of the paper boxes in front of the business at 460 Spring Street. She said debris and garbage collect around them. City Attorney Merkley suggested implementing an ordinance regulating boxes extensively. THREE WAY STOPS Wallace Blankenship appeared before the Board to voice his disapproval of some of the three way stops in Jeffersonville, especially the one along Augusta Drive. He sees no purpose in them. Mayor Waiz said the three way stops are there to slow people down. Mayor Waiz said a three way stop is needed at Ruck and Ridgeway Drive. COMMENTS: Youth Director Knight thanked MayorWaiz, Rob Poff, Peggy Wilder, and Rick Ashabranner for their help with the Spring Break activities. She also reminded everyone of the Haven House Walk on Sunday, April 18, 2004. Street Dept. Supervisor Louie Galligan asked Fire Chief Miles if he could have the parking lot washed down under the 65 overpass by the Ramada Inn and the sidewalk washed under the Court Avenue overpass for Thunder. They can't get to these areas with their equipment. Supervisor Galligan showed pictures of garbage stacked up at 123 Mechanic Street and asked if there is any kind of ordinance regulating how trash is put out. He has asked Lt. Pavey to have someone come dowaa underneath the overpass by the Waffle and Steak House to clear out the hobos. Personnel Director Calabro said beneficiary forms are due in Friday, April 16. 2004. Personnel Director Calabro said Notice of Privacy letters are being finished. Department Heads will get a copy next week. Parks Director Poff said trash cans will be in place for Thunder by Friday. Parks Director Poff inquired about the street in front of Preservation Park on Market Street being striped to make mowing easier. Mayor Waiz said it wasn't a good idea. Mayor Waiz said there will be a Thunder party at 222 W. Riverside Drive for all city employees. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to adjourn at 10:10 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
