HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-10-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MARCH 10, 2004 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Sewer Inspector Lanum sitting in for Engineer Miller. Also present were: Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Rich Davis, Building Commissioner Seagraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Safety Director Coleman, Police Chief Ashabranner, Personnel Director Calabro, Fire Chief Miles, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Redevelopment Director Becker, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 3-3-04 as presented, seconded by Sewer Inspector Lanum and carried unanimously. NINA DRIVE Building Commissioner Seagraves told the Board that 1502 Nina Drive has not been cleaned up. At the 2-11-04 Board of Publics Works meeting the Board voted to give Marilyn Werblo until 2-18-04 to clean up her property and if not a $250.00 per ;veek fine would be imposed thereafter. Building Commissioner Seagraves said this is the third ~veek of fines. City Attorney Merkley said an ordinance needs to be drafted giving the City more power to get clean ups done. Mayor Waiz asked City Attorney Merkley to prepare one for the next Council meeting. GALAPALOOSA HORSE DISPLAY Jill Schimpff of Schimpff's Confectionary appeared before the Board to ask permission to display a Galapaloosa horse in front of her business on Spring Street from Derby through October. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve displaying the horse, seconded by Sewer Inspector Lanum and carried unanimously. PAARKING SPACE Mark VanGilder appeared before the Board requesting parking space for the County Jail. Parking space is limited due to the construction work going on. VanGilder said they would like parking spaces on Meigs Avenue for the dropping off and picking up of prisoners. Police Chief Ashabranner said that the Greater Clark School Corp. is willing to give some parking space in the lot by the Corydon Potter School. He said the County could use the parking spaces marked by signs on Meigs Avenue also. City Attorney Merkley said he would contact Sandy Lewis about the space from Greater Clark Schools. COMMENTS: Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said he received a complaint from Life Spring about the paper boxes in front of their business. They said they look junky and would like to remove them and put a bench out there. Mayor Waiz said he would look into it. Mayor Waiz asked Fire Chief Mils to jot down repairs that need to be made at the various firehouses. Building Commissioner Seagraves said the Historic Board has approved the demolition of 310 and 324 Spring Street. Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury reminded everyone about the fuel cards. He said he needs a new computer also and has the money in his budget. Mayor Waiz told him to see Rich Davis. Parks Director Poff said dumping has occun'ed at Highland Park. There are various items that need to be removed. Sewer Inspector Lanum said the street department would take care of it. Administrator Davis set a target date of the last Wednesday in March for everyone to have his or her information in for the City web site. Nellie Knowland said there are old mattresses on Magnolia and French Street. Mayor Waiz said they would be removed. Personnel Director Calabro said she has the required State and Federal Employee postings for various departments. Each department will be billed $40.00. Personnel Director Caiabro said she received a call from an attorney in Washington, D.C. about the ADA polling places, emergency shelters, and who the ADA coordinator is here. Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford said a few cars have been removed from the EMC plant and a few more have come back. He talked to Street Commissioner Ellis about some storage space that is available at the plant. ATTEST:
