OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
FEBRUARY 11, 2004
Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
Were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Sellers.
Also present were: City Attorney Merkley, Building Commissioner seagraves, Personnel Director
Calabro, Police Chief Ashabrarmer, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Wastewater Treatment Asst.
Director Wright, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury,
Redevelopment Director Becker, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Street Commissioner Ellis, Parks
Director Poll, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Miles, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson
Sellers and carried unanimously.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to amend the minutes of 1-28-04 and 2-4-04 as presented,
seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
CITATION
Planning and Zoning Director Padgett sent a citation to Blaine and Loretta Metcalf of 3623 Hamburg
Pike (roofing company) for outdoor storage and parking on the grass. Director Padgett said the January
21, 2004 letter was never claimed. He asked that the police department hand deliver the citation to the
Metcalf's. Chief Ashabranner said he would take care of it.
POTHOLE
Tiffany Bordenkircher said she hit a hole in the road on Eighth Street and as a result two tires were
flattened and her wheels were bent. Engineer Miller said Indiana Gas was at fault by not having their
plate down and it wasn't marked in any way. Mayor Waiz said he would get the phone number of
Indiana Gas for her to contact them.
KENTUCKIANA YACHT SALES
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve Kentuckiana Yacht Sales building a handicapped ramp in
front of their business, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
JOHN KENYON EYE CENTER
City Attorney Merkley presented information and options from the John Kenyon Eye Center. After some
discussion Engineer Miller made the motion to table any decision until a representative from John Kenyon
comes in and explains all the options, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
CITATION
Building Commissioner Seagraves presented pictures of property belonging to Marilyn Werblo of 1502
Nina Drive that needs to be cleaned up. She was first cited December 1, 2003. Ms. Werblo said she is
trying to have her grandson clean it up. After some discussion Engineer Miller made the motion that the
property must be cleaned up completely by 2-18-04 or a $250.00 per week fine will be imposed,
seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimous
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Mayor Waiz said he would like to go with Crowe Chizek and Company L.L.C. on providing a financial
review. The cost is not to exceed $15,000.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a
Professional Services agreement with Crowe Chizek and Company L.L.C. to provide a financial review
not to exceed $15,000.00, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
DEPARTMENT HEAD MEETING:
Street Commissioner Ellis said he has had requests to pick up old tires. He said he would pick up and
dispose of tires and charge according to the type of tire if allowed. City Attorney Merkley said an
ordinance would need to be introduced and passed.
Street Commissioner Ellis said barricades are being moved at Duffy's Landing when the ramp is closed.
He asked permission to put a cable across the entrance. Mayor Waiz said Street Commissioner Ellis
would need to propose this at the next Parks Board meeting.
Engineer Miller said a decision needs to be made on phone service with Nextel as the current provider's
service ends as of March 1, 2004. Mayor Waiz said he would look over the proposals and report back
next week.
