OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JANUARY 14, 2004
Engineer Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
were: Councilperson Sellers and Redevelopment Director Becker.
Also present were: Wastewater Treatment Director Crawford, Administrator Rich Davis, Building
Commissioner Seagraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief
Ashabranner, Personnel Director Callabros, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, City
Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the minutes of 12-8-03, 12-15-03, 12-22-
03, and 12-29-03 as presented, seconded by Redevelopment Director Becker and carried
unanimously.
Redevelopment Director Becker made the motion to approve the payroll as presented,
seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously.
PEDDLER PERMIT
James Gales appeared before the Board to renew a peddler's permit to sell items in public areas.
Redevelopment Director Becker made the motion to approve renewing the peddler permit, seconded by
Com~citperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
DAMAGED VEHICLE
Mike Desaro appeared before the Board in regard to damage done to his vehicle when he hit a pothole
near 4406 Hamburg Pike. He said the rims on his car were damaged and had to be replaced in the
amount of $173.00. Engineer Miller advised Mr. Desaro to talk with City Attorney Merkley.
Redevelopment Director Becker made the motion to table this matter, seconded by Councilperson
Sellers and carried unanimously.
POTHOLE-TENTH STREET AND HOWARD AVE.
Denise Winslade spoke to the Board in regard to a pothole she hit with her cat' on the night of January 3,
2004 at Tenth St. and Howard Ave. The next morning her tire was flat and had to be replaced. Street
Commissioner Ellis said he had numerous complaints about that pothole and had patched it but it had
broken loose. Ms. Winslade presented a police report and a bill for the replacement cost. Engineer
Miller said he would call the insurance company and try to get the matter taken care of.
John Doherty told the Board that he hit the same pothole at Tenth St. and Howard Ave. He presented a
bill for his damages. Engineer Miller said he would speak to the insurance company about this one also.
STORAGE
City Attorney Merkley told the Board that six or seven large boxes containing codebooks are being
stored in the basement and need to be removed according to the Building Authority. He asked the
Department heads if anyone has any extra storage space available. Street Commissioner Ellis said he
needs some storage space also. City Attorney Merkley said it may become necessary to rent storage
space.
PROPERTY SCHEDULES
City Attorney Merkley passed out Property Schedules to all Department heads to look over and turn
back in to him with computer schedules if possible.
BIDDING PROCEDURES
City Attorney Merkley told the Board and Department heads that all bidding needs to come through the
City Attorney's office first.
MARY STREET
A resident of Mary Street asked for an update on the gutter and drainage in that area. Engineer Miller
told him there would be all new storm sewers, sanitary sewers, curbs, and gutters. The work is to begin
January 27, 2004.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Redevelopment
'Director Becket to adjourn at 10:10 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
