HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-20-2003MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA OCTOBER 20, 2003 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:45 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Parks Director Elliott sat in for Councilperson Frantz and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Building Commissioner Gavin, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street Commissioner Grant, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Personnel Director Ellis, Police Chief Pavey, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Elliott, Redevelopment Director Robinson, Sewage Office Manager Johnson, and Deputy' Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Mayor Galligan asked if there was anyone on the payroll that he or Personnel Director Ellis are not aware of. None being, Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carded unanimously. BID OPENiNG-Tenth Street Interceptor Sanitary Sewer Bids ~vere opened before the Board of Public of Works was called to order. John Toombs of Jacobi, Toombs and Lanz opened them. They were as follows: Team Contracting- $877,302.80 Dan Christiani- $821,765.58 Pace Contracting- $890,000.00 Mac Construction- $850,350.00 John Toombs recommended that Dan Christiani be awarded the contract, as the low bidder pending all papers required is included. No motion was made. BID OPENiNG-SIXTH AND MICHIGAN PARKiNG LOT Redevelopment Director Robinson said advertisement was placed to notify the public of bids being taken on the lease of the parking lot at 6th and Michigan that is owned by the city. One bid was received from T.W.K. Properties. They propose to lease the lot for $3,500.00 per year and provide maintenance, landscaping, and upkeep of the lot. The city would be requested to remove the existing chain link fence and apply a one-inch layer of asphalt surface. The length of the lease would be for an initial first period of ten years. A second ten-year lease with a 10% increase would be at the lessor's option. Parks Director Elliott made the motion to approve the lease as presented at $3,500.00 per year, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. 809 OHIO AVENUE- RESIDENT ONLY PARKiNG Mayor Galligan asked Police Chief Pavey to check this location for the possibility of resident only parking. DEDICATION OF THOMAS JEFFERSON STATUE Redevelopment Director Robinson told the Board that the dedication of the Thomas Jefferson Statue would be Friday, October 24, 2003. He asked that Court Avenue be closed from Wall Street to Spring Street. There will be a parade at 2:00 p.m. and the dedication itself will be at 4:00 p.m. (info sheet attached) Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the street closures, seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carried unanimously. RIVER CITIES CARDIOLOGY Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said that wrecked vehicles were being stored there but have now been removed. HAMBURG PIKE CAR LOT Mayor Galligan told Planning and Zoning Director Padgett that cars parked on the right of way need to be moved. He said they are creating safety issues. Director Padgett said he had previously notified the tenant of the problem but the problem hasn't been rectified. Director Padgett said he would contact the owner of the property about this matter. OUTDATED EQUIPMENT Administrator Rich Davis told the Board that he has some outdated equipment that he would like to dispose of. Mayor Galligan said if the County doesn't want it he can dispose of it. 'ROAD CLOSURE-CONCERT ON THE RIVER Redevelopment Director Robinson said Rob Quist will perform Friday, October 24, 2003 at the Terrace Lawn and requested that Riverside Drive be closed to Wall Street and Spring Street from the floodwall. ROLLING RIDGE SUBDIVISION Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said the utility companies are calling him to clarify the name of the road leading to the Rolling Ridge Subdivision. He can't find where it's officially been changed from Vissing Park Road or River City Park Road. Parks Director Elliott said he's not sure it's a dedicated road. Mayor Galligan told Director Padgett to contact City Attorney Galligan on this. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to ,--'- adjourn at 1,,¢~0 a.m., se~gnded by Parks Director Elliott and carried unanimously.
