HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-25-2003MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 25, 2003 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present Were: City Engineer Miller and Parks Director Elliott sitting in for Councilperson Frantz. Also present were: Wastewater Treatment Dir. Crawford, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Gavin, Personnel Director Ellis, Administrator Rich Davis, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Animal Shelter Office Manager Gateman, Redevelopment Director Robinson, Police Chief Pavey, Fire Chief Mike Smith, and Clerk Lyrme Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carried unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 8-18-03 as presented, seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carried unanimously. BIKE EVENT Carl and Mary Kramer came before the Board to ask approval to hold the annual Scout Bike event on Saturday, September 13, 2003 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Warder Park. They asked for police involvement again and would like a roving street closure as they had last year. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the Scout Bike event and road closure with police assistance, seconded by Councilperson Elliott and carried unanimously. ROSE HILL NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION Parks Director Elliott said there is an old foundation and tree stumps at Colston Park that need to be gotten rid of. He said a backhoe would be needed. Mayor Galligan said he would get to it this week. SPEED BUMPS Tara Talbot requested speed bumps on Woodland Court because people are speeding and flying over the hill by the floodwall. She said her house has been hit it the past. Mayor Galligan said he's planning to cut down the hill and hopefully help the situation a little bit. REQUEST FOR DUMPSTER Nellie Knowland requested the use of a dumpster. Mayor Galligan said a dumpster would be delivered. 1010 HOWARD AVENUE Police ChiefPavey recommended resident only parking for 1010 Howard Avenue. Parks Director Elliott made the motion to approve the resident only parking, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. PERSONNEL MANUAL Parks Director Elliott made the motion to approve the new personnel manual, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. OVERGROWN LOT Tara Talbott said there's a blue house on Woodland Court that is overgrown. Mayor Galligan asked that she call in with an address and he will see that it's cut. RAILROAD BERM Mayor Galligan said an offer was made to him to clear the railroad berm on Tenth Street for between $9,500.00 and $10,000.00. The Mayor said this is a good price and would like to contract with him. Parks Director Elliott made the motion to spend no more than $10,000.00 to hire for the clearing of the berm by the railroad tracks, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously There being no further business to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to adjourn at 10:00 a.m. seconded by Parks Director Elliott and carded unanimously.
