OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
NOVEMBER 4, 2002
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
Were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Waiz.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, Personnel Director Ellis, Engineering
Coordinator Dixon, Police ChiefPavey, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Wastewater Treatment
Director Crawford, Safety Director Rodden, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Redevelopment
Director White, Administrator Rich Davis, Fire Chief Smith, Animal Shelter Office Manager Gartelman,
Parks Director Elliott, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson
Waiz and carried unanimously. Mayor Galligan asked if anyone is on the payroll that he doesn't know
about.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 10-28-02 as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Waiz and carried unanimously.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Councilperson
Waiz and carried unanimously.
ALLEY VACATION
Matt Harliss and Janet Byrd appeared before the Board to request that an alley be vacated behind their
properties at Pearl Street to Market Street. Mayor Galligan said they are only entitled to half of the alley
with Preservation Station being entitled to the other half Engineer Miller made the motion to approve
vacating the alley. Building Commissioner Gavin said he thought the alley vacation needed to be
advertised first. Engineer Miller rescinded his motion pending advertising of the vacation and no
opposition.
CITATION-3129 INDUSTRIAL PARKWAY
Building Commissioner Gavin told the Board that Joseph and Norma Fleig have been cited to the Board
for overgrown weeds at 3129 Industrial Parkway. They were notified by certifiec and regular mail.
Mayor Galligan suggested that the City cut down the weeds and bill them to their tax bill. Engineer
Miller made the motion to have the street department cut the weeds at 3129 Industrial Parkway and bill
the cost to the Fleigs property taxes, seconded by Councilperson Waiz and carried unanimously.
EDWARD JONES 529 PLAN
Edward Jones Investment Representative Scott Aldridge presented to the Board some information on a
college savings plan called the 529 Plan by American Funds. Mr. Aldridge asked the Board to approve
the plan to be offered to all city employees. Councilperson Waiz made the motion to approve the 529
Plan, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
DEER CROSSING SIGN
Councilperson Waiz was asked by his seven year old son to request a Deer Crossing sign on Perrin Lane. He
said recently two dears have been hit on that road. Mayor Gatligan asked Street Commissioner Gavin to erect
a sign on Perrin Lane.
Councilperson Waiz's son also asked when something would be done with the old car sitting at Fast
Eddie's. The Mayor said the tires at least should be aired up. Building Commissioner Gavin said the
car is licensed. They will look into this.
WRECKER ON CRESTVIEW
Fire Chief Smith asked what the status is on the wrecker on Crestview. ChiefPavey said he talked to
the owner of the wrecker Friday night and he will talk to his driver about moving it. He said it will be
taken care of. Mayor Galligan said the driver of the wrecker needs to stop rewing it also.
There being no further business to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to
adjourn at 10:20 a.m. seconded by Councilperson Waiz and carried unanimously.
