HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-30-1992MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY NOVEMBER 30, 1992 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker, Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Marra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater, Utility Director Steve Tolliver~ Police Chief Rick Elliott, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley~ Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James Jr., Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatley, Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic Mike Ewton~ City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh~ Parks Representative Chuck Branham~ Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman, Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger~ and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the~eting of November 23, 1992, as presented~ seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented~ seconded by Director Matra and RESIDENTIAL PARKING SIGN carried unanimously. Police Chief Rick Elliott reported that situation and Mr. Mike Kuprion of 622 parking in the rear of his residence. putting a residential parking sign up the Board meetings. Lt. Schmidt investigated this E. Court Avenue has ample Chief Elliott recommends not until Mr. Kuprion atteno~=~ 4-WAY-STOP ~ Police Chief Elliott recommends putting a 4-Way Stop sign at the intersection of Franklin and Mary Streets. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the 4-way stop~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. CAB DRIVER PERMITS Michael Poore and JoAnn Wheat's applications were approved for their Cab Driver Permits. Dennis K. Wheat withdrew his application. Director Lakeman made the motion to accept the applications, seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. HANDICAPPED PARKING Patsy O'Neil is requesting a handicapped parking sign in front of her Father's residence at 920 E. Chestnut Street. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve this request, seconded by Director Matra, and carP~ied unanimously. PAGE 8 NOVEMBER 30, 1992 RESIDENTIAL PARKING Director Lakeman reported that he received two calls today about residential parking signs at 318 and 3B~ Watt Street. Police Chief Elliott will take a look at this situation and report back to the Board next week. LETTER Animal Shelter Jan Wheatley received a letter of appreciation from Congressman Lee Hamilton for the time she spent with his wife Nancy, when Jan took her on a tour of the Animal Shelter. She was very impressed. CITY POLICY Director Lakeman reported that he has 8 City Policies. First: Jerry Dooley and Clifton James Jr. and himself went to a Sexual Harassment class. We have a policy which was passed in 1985. There is a couple of changes we have to do in the last four paragraphs on page 2. I recommend that this be put on your bulletin board and leave them there. Second: Medical response of needle sticks, l-page response if anyone gets stuck with a needler what we should do, keep a record of it, OSHA required. Review with employee's. GUESTS CHRISTMAS TOUR Mr. Keith Staton called with a message that Jeff-Clark Preservation Christmas Tour will be Sunday December 13, 1998 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.. Horse Teams from Louisville will be on Riverside Drive and the Trolley from Louisville will be in the downtown area. OLD SEWER PLANT City Attorney Mike Gillenwater has been informed by the appraisers that the appraisal of the Old Sewer Plant will be ready this week. PAVING HAMBURG PIKE Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that Hamburg Pike is being paved today from Dutch Lane to Eastern Blvd. Also Dan Christianti will repair the sewer work that he did at Mary Street. CHRISTMAS IN WARDER PARK Parks representative Chuck Branham wants to invite everyone and their Families to Christmas in Warder Park on Friday December 3, 1992 at 6:00 P.M.. Donnie Poole and Chuck Branham are in charge of this project. Mayor Parker recognized guests that were in the meeting, they were Mike Newman from PSI and Mr. and Mrs. Goodie. PAGE 3 NOVEMBER 30, 1992 BRIDGE CLOSING Police Chief Elliott needs the Boards approval to shut down the 2nd Street Bridge on Saturday December 12, 1992 for the Jingle Bell Chase from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve this request, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. OLD SEWER PLANT Utilities Director Steve Tolliver reported that the Old Sewer Plant will be completely cleaned up at the end of this week. NEEDLES Animal Shelter Director Jan Wheatley said that the Shelter has specific boxes to rid the needles through Rumpke, if anyone wants to bring them to us, we will dispose of them for you. TOY DRIVE Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger wants to remind everyone that they can bring their Toys or money to Councilperson Donna Frantz in the Recorders Office for the Toy Drive. Colonal Cab volunteered to pick up the donations. There being no further business to come befor the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 10:15 A.M., seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
