MONDAY NOVEMBER 16, 1992
Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.~
and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker~
Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman~ '~nd Sewage Collection
Office Director Jim Marra. ~"f
Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, Street
Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater~ Utility
Director Steve Tolliver: Police Chief Rick Elliott~ Assistant Police
Chief Charles Elder: Fire Chief Jerry Dooley~ Assistant Fire Chief

Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting
of November 9~ 1992~ as presented~ seconded by Director Matra and
carried unanimously.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrollS as presented~
seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously.
RESIDENTIAL PARKING
Police Chief Rick Elliott reported on the residential parking sign
requested by Lessie Box of 1013 E. Market Street. Lt. Schmidt did a
report on it and reported that more than residential parking needs to
be done from Graham Street to the Howard Steamboat Muesum and from the
flood wall to Market Street on the Graham Street side with no cost to
the residents. Director Lakeman made the motion to accept the
recommendation of Police Chief Elliott about the parking problem on
1000 block of Market Street~ seconded by Director Matra: and carried
unanimously.
DRAINAGE IN NORTHAVEN

said that the pipe wasn't extended far enough and is flooding the 2

JOB DESCRIPTION
Police Chief Rick Elliott request the Boards approval for the job
description of the Safety Division of the Jeffersonville Police
Department. (see attached copy) Director Lakeman made the motion to
approve the job description for the Safety Division of the
Jeffersonville Police, seconded by Director ~ Marra~ and carried
unanimously.

RESIDENTIAL PARKING
Mike Kuprion of 622 E. Court Avenue across from the Field House
requests a residential parking sign. Chief Rick Elliott will have Lt.
Schmidt check on and report back to the board.
ROADBLOCK
Fire Chief Jerry Dooley request for the Firefighters to set up
roadblocks at different locations to collect for Christmas Baskets for
the needy. (see attached copy) Director Lakeman made the motion to
approve the request for roadblocks for the Fire Department, seconded
by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
METER BASE FOR THE CITY
Building Commissioner Bill Gavin has a request from the electrician
for the Beautification Project at Court and Indiana Avenue putting
light on the flag pole. In the last administration the City agreed to
pay PSI for the monthly bill also the papers need to be signed.
Director Lakeman made the motion to accept this and seconded by
Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
CITY GASOLINE
Director Lakeman reported that he has had 2 gasoline meetings with ?
Department Heads. We need to do nothing at this time, we need to come
up with a plan. Mayor Parker said that the EPA is making it mandatory
for a leakage valve to be used by December 1993.
CHILDREN AT PLAY SIGN
Mrs. Knowland of the Magnolia Avenue area request a Children at Play
signs. Les Kavanaugh reported that there is already a sign up in
front of Rev. Bates home. Mayor Parker asked Police Chief Elliott to
check on this.
EMERGENCY ON CALLAWAY DRIVE
Building Commissioner Bill Gavin said that he will try to get some
funding from the Council tonight for the emergency on Callaway Drive.
PRE-JOB CONFERENCES
Superintendant Bob Miller would like to see the City of Jeffersonville
have a pre-job conference before a Company can do work for the City so
that they can tell them what they can and can't do. Mike Gillenwater
will draw up an Ordinance to help the situation.
DUMPED TIRES
Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that F & T Tire Co. had
approximately 25 to 30 tires dumped into the alley behind their
business. This is the second time this has happened. Mike
Gillenwater suggested that we vacate the alley or put gates at each
end. George Trembly will talk to them and see what can be done.
Mayor Parker asked George to pick them up this time.

OLD EQUIPMENT
Street Commissioner George Trembly would like to sell the old
equipment that he has from the Street Department. He would like to
take sealed bids on them. Mike Gillenwater said to make up a list and
give it to him.
DUTCH LANE
Street Commissioner George Trembly reports that we are losing the
section of road running up to Magnolia. We have to do something
before we have an accident~ Jorge Lanz suggested to pave the road for
the Winter. Jim Matra said to bill it through the Sewer Departmenb.
SECOND STREET BRIDGE CLOSURE
Police Chief Rick Etli~tt request permission for the Second Street
Bridge to be closed on December 5~ 199B from 8:00 A.M. .to 1S:30 P.M.
for the Kentucky Derby Festival Childrens Holiday Parade. Director
Lakeman made the motion to approve this request~ seconded by Director
Marra~ and carried unanimously.
GASOLINE PROBLEM
Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder reports that the

ALLGIE SWEEP
Utilities Director Steve Tolliver talked to Dick Spencer about signing
an agreement with the bank in reference to the Allgie Sweep saying
that we will pay the bill in January. It's a small Company that did
the job. Director Jim Matra said to go ahead and pay the bill now
instead of January.
F.E.M.A.
Utilities Director Steve Tolliver reported that we had B-DSR from 1990
and 1998. FEMA will disallow the claims unless we come up with
Engineering surveys. Jorge Lanz said that he.will take care of this.
CLAIM
Steve Tolliver said that he got a call from a man about hitting a hole
on 8th Street with his car when we lost the sewers in July. He never
called to report it. He had his car worked on and cost him $180.00
for a front end alignment, and still needs 2 tires. Mike Gillenwater
said to give him his name and number and he will get in touch with
him.

BELL RINGING
Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger got a call from Roxanne Haley
with Social Services and Welfare of the Salvation Army. They are
starting their campaign for Bell Ringing on November 19, 1992. Anyone
interested see Donna for the schedule.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at lO:BO
A.M., seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously.
