OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE~ INDIANA
MONDAY NOVEMBER 2~ 1992
Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.,
and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker,
Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection
Office Director Jim Matra.
Also present were: Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney
Mike Gillenwater~ Utility Director Steve Tolliver, Police Chief Rick
Elliott~ Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatley~
Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen: Parks Superintendent Rodger
Caldwell, Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman~ Councilperson William
Wolpert, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Alice
Davis.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting
of October 26, 1992, as presented, seconded by Director Matra and
carried unanimously.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented,
seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously.
PARKING ON CHIPPEWA DRIVE
Police Chief Rick Elliott reported that Asst. Chief Charles Eider and
George Trembly conducted a traffic study on Chippewa Drive. He
recommends that we continually use extra enforcement to enforce the
City Ordinance on speeding. Director Lakeman made the motion to
accept the recommendation of Police Chief Elliott on the parking on
Chippewa Drive, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.

RESIDENTIAL PARKING SIGN
Lessie Box of 1013 Market Street across the street from Jeff Boat

Indiana Gas Corporation has a revised addition list of emergency
numbers.

City Attorney Mike GillenwateC has ~e~prices for the News and Journal
Contract for the advertising of ~he City Council Agenda. Director
Lakeman made the motion to accept the News and Journal advertising
rates for the Council Agenda, seconded by Director Matra, and carried
unanimously.
SPEED LIMIT
Lt. Dave Schmidt wrote to the Sta~e requesting them to reconsider the
speed limit on Highway 62 West bound from Holmans Lane to Springdale
Drive changed to 45 miles an hour for the whole distance. We also
asked for a left turn arrow West bound onto Springdale Drive from loth
Street. Director Lakeman made the motion to accept Lt. Schmidts
recommendation for the change in the speed limit~ seconded by Director
Matra, and carried unanimously.
BURNING LEAVES
Director Lakeman received a call from a resident about burning leaves.
Fire Chief Jerry Dooley said that they can be burned from Sun up To
Sun down in a container with a screen on the top.

DRAINAGE PROBLEM
Utilities Director Steve Tolliver reported that he received a letter
from the Mayor's Office about the drainage ditch next to the Lee
America Corporation on Charlestown New Albany Road. The ditch floods
and runs under the road to the County. Jorge Lanz took a look at this
and reported that the County side needs to be larger to accommadate
the flow. Seorge Tremblys people are going to clean the City's side
of the ditch. Mayor Parker asked City Attorney Mike Gillenwater to
incorporate a letter with Jorge Lanz~s opinions and send it to the
County Commissioners.
MEETING
Utilities Director Steve Tolliver reported that he will be speaking at
the Operatiors Association Meeting on Monday in Indianapolis. Mr.
James will be going to school there to keep his operators license.
Les Best will be representing Steve at the Board of Public Works
Meeting on Monday.

INTERSECTION
Street Commissioner George Trembly talked to Mike Rooter from the
State to get an update on the intersection of Highway 62 and Allison
Lane. The projection is for 1994 to pave from Allison Lane to
Charlestown. They will try to squeeze this intersection in before
1994 if possible.
CONTRACT
Street Department George Trembly is trying to get a contract with the
State to sweep loth Street and try to include the ramps. The State
will pay us everytime we sweep it. The contract will be brought to
the Board before it meets to take a look at it.
GAZABO
Parks Superintendant Rodger Caldwell reported that the volunteers are
back in town and will start working on the Gazabo on Thursday. They
are checking to see if the ramp has to be put on. Rodger said that
the ramp will be put on if the Parks Department has to do it.
FATAL ACCIDENT
Police Chief Rick Elliott wants to thank Fire Chief Jerry Dooley and
Street Department Director George Trembly's crews for helping at the
fatal accident early Sunday morning on Highway 62 at Shamrock
Liquors.
STREET SWEEPER
Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr. said that the Redevelopment
Department is going to pay for the street sweeper. They will be
giving us a check which still has to be a Special Appropriation. It
has to go in front of the Council for authorization to advertise for a
public hearing. If we don~t do it now it will be the first of the
year befor we will be able to it.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn a 10:10 A.M.~
seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
