HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-05-1992MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE~ INDIANA MONDAY OCTOBER 5, 1992 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker, Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gitlenwater, Utility Director Steve Tolliver, Police Chief Rick Elliott, Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James Jr., Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatley~ Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen~ City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh, Assistant Parks Superintendent Donnie Poole, Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman, Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger, Motor Vehicle Supervisor Bob Miller, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Alice Davis~ Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of September 28, 1992~ as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. 3-WAY STOP Police Chief Rick Elliott reported that an accident and neighborhood study was done at the intersection of 7th and Penn Street. He recommends that a 3-way stop be made there. George Trembly suggested that it be advertised several times before putting up the signs Director Lakeman made the motion to accept this, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. ALLEY BEHIND MUNICH WELDING Building Commissioner Bill Gavin reported that there will be a survey made in the alley behind Munich Welding to determine where the City limits are. It will be another week and a half before we know anything. YARD SALE ' ~- ....... ~ .... Yvonne Knight a representative from the Howard Steamboat Museum requests to use the median on Park Place on Saturday November ?, 1992 from IO:OOAM to 4:00PM for a yard sale. Director Lakeman made the motion to accept this, and seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. SEWER City Attorney Mike Gillenwater reported that Frank Ballard told him that his basement on 9th Street flooded a couple of times from the sewer backup when we had hard rains~ Mike told him we would provide him with a back flow preventer, we won't install it, he will have to have it installed. PAGE 2 OCTOBER 5~ 1992 MANHOLE ON MARKET STREET Mrs. Minnie Pangburn reported that she hit a manhole cover with her car in the vacinity of the DeMars Project and it did $126.17 worth of damage to her vehicle. City Attorney Mike Gillenwater said that he would talk to the Construction Manager and they might be able to help her on this matter. Mrs. Pangburn left a copy of the claim with the Mayor's secretary. PROMOTION IN POLICE DEPT, Police Chief Rick Elliott announced the promotion of Captain Dennis Simon to Major. Director Lakeman made the motion to accept this promtoion, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. UPGRADING RULES FOR POLICE DEPT. Police Chief Rick Elliott upgraded page 2B in the Rules and Regulations Manual and made it more up to date. (see attached copy). Director Lakeman made the motion to accept the update~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. ADA Director Lakeman reported that he has had 3 more calls on curb cuts. He talked to Bill Gavin and George Trembly about this and they will be setting up a time and day of this week to go check this out. THANK YO~ Police Chief Rick Elliott thanked Animal Shelter Director Jan Wheatley for taking care of a personal pet problem over the weekend for him. Also Bales Motors donated a 1988 Dodge 6000 to the Police Department in support of the take home car program~ it will be utilitized by the Detective Department. We would like to thank Les Albro and Walt Bales. LETTER Street Commissioner George Trembly sent to the Board of Public Works a letter on changes to be made for Contractors who don't keep the mud out of the street when building new homes. Also the Concrete Companies who empty their trucks in the gutters and let it run to the catch basins. Bob Miller is sending a letter to the Concrete Companies telling them not to dump in the gutters. Mayor Parker suggested that Utilities Director Steve Tolliver send a letter also to the companies. BIKE TRAIL SIGNS Street Commissioner George Trembly asked the Bike Trail Signs since there is no Parker gave him the permission. for permission to take down bike trail anymore. Mayor LOADING ZONE SIGN A Loading Zone Sign came up missing from Spring Street after the Steamboat Days Festival. We want to know who pays and replaces the sign when missing. Mayor Parker suggested that we replace it one time~ PAGE 3 OCTOBER 5~ 1998 STREET CLOSING Bob Miller reported that he met resurface Buttonwood Subdivision~ that he resurfaces it. It will Director Lakeman made the motion MaFra and carried unanimously. with the Contractor who is going to he wants to close the street the day be shut down for only one day. to accept this, seconded by Director THANK YOU Utilities Director Steve Tolliver wants to thank everyone who helped get ready for the Dedication of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Tuesday October 6, 1992, at 10:30 AM. Everyone's welcome to be there at the request of the Mayor. NATIONAL RED RIBBON WEEK Donna Metzger reported that the week of October 24, 1998 thru Nov. 1~ 1998 will be National Red Ribbon Week for more information see attached copy. There being no further business to come before the Board Works~ Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at seconded by Director Marra, and carried unanimously.
