OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONgILLE~ INDIANA
MONDAY AUGUST 31~ 1992
Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30
and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker~
Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection
Office Director Jim Matra.
Also present were: Utility Director Steve Tolliver~ Police Chief Rick
Elliott~ Fire Chief Jerry Dooley,Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike
Wathen~ City Services Coordinator George Trembly, ,Parks Director
Roger Caldwell, City Services Coordinator Les Kavanaugh, City Attorney
Mike Gillenwater,Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James~Assistant Police
Chief Charles Elder~Melba Doggett, Animal Shelter Manager Jan
Wheatley, Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman, Councilperson Peggy
Wilder, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Lynne
Kempf.
Director Lakeman made the motion to accept the minutes of August 24,
1998, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously.
Director Matra made the motion to accept the payrolls~ seconded by
Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously.
STEAMBOAT DAYS STREET CLOSING
Police Chief Elliott passed out a list to Board members on streets
that will be closed during this event. The Downtown merchants will be
notified of street closings. Director Lakeman made the motion to
approve the closings, seconded by Director Marra~ and carried
unanimously.
FRANKLIN FINANCE AND LIFE
Charles Heck of Franklin Finance and Life spoke in regards to offering
payroll deductions for things like insurance, mutual funds~
annnuities,etc, to the Jeffersonville city employees. Mayor Parker
suggested that Mr. Heck find out from the department heads if any
employees are interested and go from there.
REQUEST FOR MASON FUNERAL HOME
Nanetla Mason, co-owner of Mason Funeral Home asked for her curb to be
painted yellow so parking is available to her clients. She also
requested a light pole in the alley. Mayor Parker said Police Chief
EIliott will look into these requests and report back.
EASTGATE SUBDIVISION AWNING
Attorney Bill Engebretson spoke in regards to the awning on a home in
Eastgate Subdivision which is offensive to the neighbors there. He is
asking forthe the city to take action against this resident. City
Attorney Gil!enwater said he would have to look at the ordinances that
Mr~ Engebretson referred to and get back with Mr. Engebretson and the
Board.

SEWERS
Utility Director Steve Tolliver reported that one sewer was omitted in
er~or when originally figured. Director Tolliver has received 2
estimates on this work. One was from T. Kempf Co., Inc. for
$78~858.00 and Irish Park for $45~900.00. City Attorney Gillenwater
thinks that this will probably have to be let out for bids because of
the large difference between the two prices submitted. Attorney
Gillenwater said he would check and see if it can be handled
differently because it's an emergency situation. Director Tolliver
says it must be completed by September 2?th.
Director Tolliver also reported 2 requests for sewer extensions. They
are: Christ Gospel on Highway 62, and William McCullough on New
Albany-Charlesto~n Pike.
REQUEST FOR REPAIRS
Councilperson Peggy Wilder asked for paving on Bishop Road and repairs
to driveways on Hamburg Pike. Mayor Parker said these things would be
looked into.
AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT
Director Lakeman reminded all department heads to report back to him
on this matter as it needs to be turned in.
TENTATIVE FBI ACCEPTANCE
Mayor Parker announced that Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder has
been tentatively selected for the FBI Academy.
COMPLAINT ON WEEDS
Building Commissioner Gavin said he has gotten many complaints about
the weeds and overgrown grass at the Park Chevrolet building. He has
not gotten any response from the owners of this property. Attorney
GiIlenwater will check on this matter.
Building Commissioner Gavin reported that the estimate for installing
a light at Spring and Sparks Avenue is approximately $4,000.00. Clark
Memorial Hospital had agreed to ehare in this cost. Building
Commissioner Gavin is to contact Clark Memorial on this.
REQUEST FOR BLACKTOP
City Services Coordinator Trembly said he's had several calls from
residents wanting blacktop on their driveways. He said this is
something the city cannot afford to do.
FEMA REPORTS
Utility Director Tolliver said the FEMA reports are completed.
DEDICATION
Director Lakeman announced that the Dedication for the Wastewater
Treatment Plant has been set for October 6, at 10:30 a~m.
