HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-10-1992 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY AUGUST 10~1998 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parkers Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman~ and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Utility Director Steve Tolliver, Police Chief Rick Elliott, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley,Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen~ City Services Coordinator George Trembly, ,Parks Director Roger Caldwell~ City Services Coordinator Les Kavanaugh~ City Attorney Mike Gillenwater,Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James~Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder,Melba Doggett, Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatley, Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman,, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr'.~ and Clerk Lynne Kempf. REQUEST FOR LIGHTS Director Matra speaking on behalf of Building Commissioner Gavin who was unable to attend the meeting said he feels it best to grant the request for lights a Fairview Avenue, Clearstream~ and Bluegrass Trail. Director Lakeman made the motion to accept this recommendation, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. PEBBLE BROOK AND STARVIEW COURT This update was tabled until further notice. MARY EVE OF ARBY'S Mary Eve of Arby's asked permission to set up a roadblock on Highway 68 to collect money for Big Brothers on Friday, August 15 or 88 from 3-9 p.m. Mayor Parker recommended they use a different location for safety reasons. Director Matra said he would help find a better location for her. MELBA DOGGETT Molba spoke in regards to complaints by residents in Eastgate Subdivision about a residential home with an awning with a disturbing logo. They want to know if something can be done about getting it taken down. City Attorney Gillenwater said he didn't think the sign was violating any laws but it would be looked into. Melba said a petition would be forthcoming. SEWER PROBLEMS Paul Van Gilder and Alan Purcell of 1304 and 1308 E. 9th Street spoke in regards to sewer problems as a result of heavy rains on Saturday. City Attorney Gillenwater said there is nothing the city can do about this. PAGE 2 AUGUST 10, 1992 uUPDATES Utility Director Steve Tolliver gave an update on the new sewer plant which is to start up September 22nd. A formal dedication is scheduled for sometime in October. He also gave an update on what occurred over the weekend because of heavy rains. THANKS Mayor Parker expressed his gratitude to his department heads for their support of him in the newspaper article. LETTER OF THANKS Mayor Parker read a letter of thanks from the New Albany Fire Dept. thanking our Fire Dept. for their assistance on the fire there recently. GRAHAM STREET PARKING PROBLEM Police Chief Rick Elliott reported that he has contacted Mr. Grant at Jeffboat in regards to the parking problem on Graham Street before taking other measures. He also reported that Witten Brothers will be moving a press from the old sewer plant on August 17 or 18. Witten Brothers are requesting permission to do this. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve this request, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. 1021 E. COURT City Services Coordinator George Trembly said that Mr. Herman of 1021 E. Court called to say that his resident parking sign has disappeared since Friday. There being no further business to before the Board of Public Works, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Director Marra, and carried unanimously.
