HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-20-1992 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF pUBLIC wORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY JULY 2©, 1992 Mayor Raymond J- Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.~ and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker, Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman~ and Sewage Collection ' r Jim Matra. Office Directo Also present were: Building Commissioner William Gavin, Utility Director Steve Tolliver~ Police Chief Rick Elliott~ Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Animal Shelter' Manager Jan Wheatley~ Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen~ City Services Coordinator George Trembly~ Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James~Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder,Parks Director Roger Caldwell, City Services Coordinator Les Kavanaugh~ Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jrt, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Director Matra made the motion to accept the payrolls ae presented~ seconded'by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously- Director Matra made the the motion to approve the minutes of July 13, 1992 as presented, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously. AVONDALE COURT In regards to the complaint on Avondale Court~ Assistant Police Chief Elder said Ordinances are being checked in order to hopefully remedy the problem correctly~ BRIGMAN AVENUE Police Chief Elliott has checked 3 additional signs there. the situation and recommends placing SOUTHERN INDIANA MAPS K.D. Stearley of K~D. Stear!ey Publications presented some information on the Southern Indiana maps that he distributes throughout Southern Indiana. HOLMAN'S LANE Fred Hollis~ a resident at 3210 Holman~e Lane is concerned that an accident is going to happen because his driveway is very close to the subdivision entrance~ Building Commissioner Gavin checked it out and agreed with Mr. Holtis. Mayor Parker said an investigation would be done and a recommendation made on this matter. MR. HOLLtS -DITCH Fred Hollis requested a meeting with his attorney~ himself~ Attorney, and Building Commissioner Gavin on this matter. the City PAGE 2 July ~0, 1992 CONTRACT FOR BENCHES Mr. Lakeman said Holly Johnson of Mainstreet is inquiring about the contract on the benches. OFF STREET PARKING An employee of Ann's On The River called Director Lakeman requesting a parking permit. Director Lakeman made 'the motion to deny anymore parking permits, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. BOILER INSPECTION Director Lakeman reported that the insurance adjustor called and the boilers are to be inspected. FIREFIGHTER JOB DESCRIPTION Firechief Jerry Dooley presented the Firefighter Job Description personalized for our city by the Personnel Management Group in Indianapolis. Attorney Gi!lenwater has looked it over. Chief Dooley asked the Board to pass thie job description. Director Lakeman made the motion to pass it, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. CONTRACT FOR UNIFORMS Wastewater Treatment Director Steve Tolliver presented quotes for the uniforms, with Universal Uniforms having the best quote. The board will review and make a recommendation at the next meeting. 3 WAY STOP REQUEST Police Chief Eiliott has checked into this situation Ridgeway Drives and does not recommend putting a 3 way The Chief's recommendation was accepted by the Board. at Ruck and stop there. SIGNS PUT UP Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that "Watch out for Kids" sign was put up on Oak!awn Drive~ PAVING Street Commissioner Trembly said paving was done on Riddle Street~ 9th Street, Gail Drive~ Indiana Avenue~ and John Street. APPLIANCE PICKUP Street Commissioner Trembly asked the Board's approval to stop picking up things such as refrigerators~ window a~r conditioners~ freezers etc~ because the CFC has to be removed before he can handle them according to a law which went into effect July let. [)ur notice will go into effect Monday, July ~?th that no more pickups of these items be made. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve~ seconded by Director Matra and c~rried unanimously. July 20~ 1992 DRAINS City Services Coordinator Kavanaugh reported that the drains on the Kennedy Bridge are to be cleaned by the Kentucky Dept. of Highways- GRASSCU~ING. Street Commissioner Coordinator George Trembly reported that Friday a caii was made to State and the mowers came in Monday morning to take care of grasscutting in various areas. REDEDICATION Parks Director Roger Caldwell reported that the Drug Free Community Day will be Friday at Springhill Park. Saturday at noon~ the park will be re-dedicated the Henry Laneing Park. ~WEEPER Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen reported that should have the sweeper done in B to ~ 1/2 weeks. Brown Equipment COMPLAINT City Services Coordinator Kavanaugh reported that a Mrs. complained about Avondale Court not being paved. The street for paving but is not a priority at this point. Bratcher is listed B~INERS .City Services Coordinator Kavanaugh said getting recycling banners for A locations we are in the process of the city. ~VENTS FORM Adminimtrative Assistant Donna Metzger has drafted up to be used by various departments. REQUEST FOR AUCTION Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen inquired about having a city auction. Mayor Parker advised checking with Mike Gillenwater on this. There being no further business to before the Board of Public Works, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a~m.~ seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
