HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-02-1992MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY MARCH B, 1992 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker, Personnel and Safety Director Harold LaWeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner William Gavin~ Street Commissioner Lee Hemingway, City Attorney Mike Giilenwater, Utility Director Steve Tolliver, Police Asst. Police Chief Charles Elder, Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatiey, Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen~ City Services Coordinator George Trembly, Park Superintendent Rodger Caldwelt, Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Suzy Nevitt. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of February 18, 199B and February 24, 199B as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman informed the Board that Louisville charges its vendors $25.00 for the space and $15.00 for each worker in the booth. He also suggested that the City allow no alcoholic beverages to be sold at these booths. Mayor Parker said that the City needs to finalize this as soon as possible. UPDATE ON ANNEXED AREAS Nathan Grimes, Jacobi, Tombs, & Lanz, appeared before the Board to update it on the new sewer lines in the annexed area. The update is attached to the minutes. There are four areas not complete. STREET LIGHT AT CITY COUNTY PARKING LOT Commissioner Gavin informed the Board that the County was not willing to pay for a street light at the parking lot of the City County Building. He is to meet with the engineer from Public Service. PARKING ON SIDEWALKS Vernon Kaufman, 317 Graham St, appeared before the Board concerning patrons of Champs Bar parking and driving on the sidewalks. He also said that they leave the bar and sit in front of neighboring residents and drink and disturb the residents. This usually happens on weekends after 12:00 midnight. The Board asked Asst. Elder to officially inform the owner of the complaint and to also speed up patrol in the area. March 2, 1998 Page 2 DRAINAGE PROBLEMS Art Meyer, B12 Hopkins Ln~ appeared again before the Board concerning drainage in his yard that is going into his basement. He wants the City to get a court order to do the work in his neighbors yard. Attorney Gillenwater told Mr. Meyer that Ms. Bliss has agreed to let the City on her property in a couple of months so that her yard won't be muddy all spring. BENCH CONTRACTS Clerk and Treasurer Spencer informed the Board that on March 18, 19912 the Board approved a five year extended contract with Eye Level Advertising for all City benches. According to Mr Meumeister, the previous City Attorney was to revise the contract and have is signed by the Board. This was never done. Attorney Gillenwater said that he will revise the contract back dated to 3-18-91 and present it to the Board at the next meeting. CITY FLOAT Superintendent Caldwell asked the Board for suggestions on where to store the City Float, which is used once a year. Director Tolliver suggested that he store it at the old Wastewater Plant as there is someone there all the time. COMMENDATIONS Mayor Parker commended Supt. Caldwell on the nice article in the paper about the Parks Dept. Commissioner Gavin also commended City Services Trembly for the fine write up in the paper about his recycling projects. Director Wheatley thanked Commissioner Hemingway, Director La~eman~ Services Coordinator Trembly, Commissioner Gavin~ and the Police Dept. for all the help they have given her during the remodeling of the Animal Shelter. TREE ON ?TH ST Commissioner Gavin informed the Board that he has left a message for the owner of the property at 901 E ?th St concerning the tree. DISCUSSION ON DITCH Discussion was held on the ditch on Springdale Dr. Commissioner Gavin told the Board that the job will be greater than originally thought. Commissioner Hemingway said that he would have his men cut the underbrush when it dries up. SURBURBAN DRAINAGE DITCH Commissioner Gavin informed the Surburban Drainage is $35~000.00. do it in-house. She is caring for her ill mother qnd the ambulance driver told her that they had a hard time finding her street, The motion was made by Director Lakeman to approve the sign and to bill the developer~ seconded by Director Matra and approved unanimously. CHANGE ORDER ON AUGUSTA DR Mr. Grimes~ Jacobi~ Tombs~ & Lanz~ informed the Board of a ,change order from Irish Park in the amount of $900.00 for 60 tons of rip rap for the drainage ditch on Augusta Dr. The motion was made by Director Matra to approve the change order, seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously. Mr. Grimes also informed the Board that the guardrail on Hamburg Pike needs to removed and the road widened at the curb. There being no further business to come before the Boards Mayor Parker made the motion to adjourn mt 10:20 A.M.~ seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously.
