HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-07-1993MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA TUESDAY SEPTEMBER ?~ 1993 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker, Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, Plant Superintendent Larry James, Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatley, Parks Superintendent Rodger Caldwell, Administrative Assistant Donna Baird, and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. MARKET STREET SEWERS Mr. Jorge Lanz reported that he did a survey on the Market Street sewer problem, a TV camera was sent through east and west and there is a problem at Market and Walnut Streets, and it has to be corrected before they start on the project. Irish Park gave a quote of $12,000.00 to do the work, the sewers are 12-15' deep. Mr. Lanz wants to take action this morning contingent upon City Attorney Mike Gillenwater approval and if there are any problems we can resind at the next meeting. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the Irish Park quote of $1B,O00.O0 on Market Street Sewer problem, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. RIGHT TO LIFE PARADE PERMIT Pat Datillo representing Right to Life of Southern Indiana requests a parade permit for Sunday October 37 1993 from B:3Opm-3:3Opm starting at the bridge and going up Court Avenue. Director Lakeman made the motion to grant the parade permit, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. RESIDENT PARKING Mary Bowman of 95? E. Maple Street requests a resident parking sign, she was not present at the meeting~ this was tabled. TAXI CAB PERMIT Pete Newsome requests a taxi cab permit. Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder said he needs to come to the Jeff Police Department and fill out an application and bring it back to the Board for approval and then go to the City Clerk-Treasurers Office for the permit. PAGE B SEPTEMBER ?~ 1993 TRAFFIC SIGNALS City Engineer Bob Miller received a letter from Metzger Electric stating the prices for the work that has to done on the damages to the traffic signals. light pole at 8th & Spring Streets $4,85A.00 repairs at 8th & Crestview $1~B63.00 repairs at 8th & Main Streets $1,B63.00 TOTAL $?,380.00 Bob Miller said that he will talk to Clerk-Treasures Dick Spencer about where the funds will come from. BEGGARS NIGHT Parks Superintendent Rodger Caldwell said that the Mayor's secretary received a call concerning the date for Beggars night. Rodger called Charlestown, Clarksville and Beggars night will be Saturday October 30, 1993 from 6:00pm-9:OOpm. The Parks Department Halloween in the Park will be Friday October 29~ 1993. TRAFFIC PROBLEM IN NORTHAVEN Ken Bruce a resident in Northaven was not at the meeting, tabled. this was SOLICITORS PERMIT Tim Honeycutt representing Gus Furniture Distributors requests a solicitors permit~ was not present at the meeting, this was tabled. PARKING & ACCESS PROBLEMS Hazel and Red Briscoe of 813 Pratt Street has a parking problem with their neighbor~ Mr. Gary Gilpen 815 Pratt Street. Mr. Gilpen parks his car at the edge of of the Briscoe's driveway and there is a PSI pole at other side of the driveway. They would like to have the curbs painted on each side of their drive yellow. City Engineer Bob Miller eaid that painting the curbs would not help the problem. Lt. Schmidt has gone to the Briscoe residence and said that there is a parking problem. Mr. Miller suggests that Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder go to Mr. Gitpens residence and talk personally to him. Building Commissioner Bill Gavin said that he has received 3 calls on this problem. The problem is the property line. 3-WAY STOP AT PERRIN LANE AND 8TH STREET Administrative Assistant Donna Baord brought to the Board for Nancy and Dennis Miles requesting a 3-way stop at 8th Street and Perrin Lane. Building Commissioner Bill Gavin said to check with the County because the curve is to be taken out of the road above the flood wall in their KIPDA project. Harold Lakeman talked to the Corps of Engineers about the flood levy and are to take a look at this and they may cut the wall back so you can zee better. PAGE 3 SEPTEMBER ?, 1993 FIREFIGHTERS AGILITY TEST Fire Chief Jerry Dooley said that he and Mr. Lakeman need to siit down together with City Attorney Mike Gillenwater and discuss parts of the agility test as to the different parts of the test that we were mandated by the government. We need to meet when City Attorney Mike Gillenwater can be with us. STEAMBOAT DAYS FESTIVAL -Mayor Parker asked Donna Baird how the Steamboat Days Festival is going. Donna and Director Lakeman attended the meetings and everything is going good~ all the permits have been approved. BUDGETS SIGNED Administrative Assistant Donna Baird said that Clerk-Treasurer Dick Spencer a~ked her to announce that all Department Heads to stop by his Office this morning and sign the final budgete. Mayor Parker said that there is a Council meeting tonight. STREET SWEEPING AGREEMENT Mayor Parker signed the street sweeping agreement with the State!. PERSONNEL MATTER Mayor Parker gave Personnel Director Harold Lakeman the results of the personnel matter at the Waste Treatment Plant.
