OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
MONDAY JUNE 219 1993
Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.~
and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker~
Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection
Office Director Jim Matra.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin~ City Engineer Bob
Miller~ Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike
Gillenwater, Utility Director Steve Tolliver~ Director of Supervision
Larry James~ Police Chief Rick Elliott, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley,
Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James Jr.~ Animal Shelter Manager Jan
Wheatley, Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen, City Services

Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting
of June 14~ 1993 as presented~ seconded by Director Matra and
carried unanimously.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented~
seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously.
8-TON LIMIT ON SPRING STREET
Mr. Pat Thompson representing a group of people along Spring Street
who are concerned about keeping the 8-ton limit. Mayor Parker said
that this is being taken to the Council for a legislative decision on
resinding the Ordinance.
HANDICAPPED PARKING 206 RIVERSIDE DRIVE
Mr. Darrell Harbin requests a Handicapped Parking sign for his Aunts
Mrs. Kahl who resides at 206 Riverside Drive. She wants the sign
placed on Pearl Street, because of the boats parked along side her
house. Mayor Parker asked Police Chief Rick Elliott to make a
recommendation at next weeks meeting.
DRAINAGE PROBLEM ON MOCKINGBIRD DRIVE
Mr. & Mrs. John Cain, 1920 Whippoorill Drive and Mr. & Mrs. Frank
Montgomery have a complaint about drainage problems in their back
yards. Bob Miller said that he has been up there and he needs to talk
to our engineers about the Market Street project to see if there wi!i
be storm sewerwhere the water can drain. Mike Myers from the Health
Dept. said that there is a masquito problem when the water stands.
Mayor Parker asked Steve Tolliver to have a truck clean out the ditch
on a regular basis until something can be done. Bob Miller will get
back with you after he talks with the engineers.
PAINTING HOUSE NUMBERS ON CURBS
Mr. Vince Bell requests permission to paint house numbers on curbs, he
did not appear before the Boards this was tabled.

SEWER EXTENSIONS
Mr. A1Schmidt requests the Boards approval for sewer extensions for a
new subdivision on Jeff Charlestown Pike. Utilities Director Steve
Tolliver wants both Engineer firms to get together about this project.
City Attorney Mike Gillenwater said that we need to have a wavier
signed by Mr. Schmidt in the event that we annex that area. Director
Lakeman made the motion to approve Mr. Schmidt tying into our sewer
system contingent upon the engineering being finalized and agreed upon
by the Building Commissioner's Office making final recommendation to
this Board~ seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
BUTTONWOOD STREET LIGHTS
Building Commissioner Bill Gavin said that the developer of Buttonwood
has chosen a special street light which is the most expensive to the
tax payer. The light will cost us $30.49 per month. I do not
recommend this light. Bill will get back with the developer and PSI
to check on some of these prices.
CLARK MEMORIAL PEDWAY
Building Commissioner Bill Gavin reported that Clark Memorial Hospital
wants approval from the Board to erect a pedway from the Medical Arts
Building to the Clark Memorial Hospital which will be B5~ above the
surface of the street. Director Matra made the motion to approve the
recommendation of Mr. Gavin for the pedway at Clark Memorial Hospital~
seconded by Director Lakeman and carried unanimously.
SEWER TAP IN
Utilities Director Steve Tolliver requests a sewer tap in for Mr.
Jesse Ballew for a new subdivision at Crums Lane by the YMCA, there
will be 199 single dwellings. The engineering is finished and it will
work at the pump station. All sump pumps will have to be removed from
the homes in that area. City Attorney Mike Gillenwater requests that
Mr. Ballew sign a wavier in the event that we annex that area.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the sewer tap in for Jesse
Ballew's subdivision contingent upon specifications that were
suggested by Steve Tolliver, seconded by Director Matra, and carried
unanimously.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Utilities Director Steve Tolliver and Director of Supervision Larry
James is requesting a leave of absence for David Payne, 3rd shift
employee, with out pay until June B9, 1993 for personal reasons.
Steve said that he and Larry James recommend the request. Director
Lakeman said that we need to get this request in writing from Mr.
Payne.

LETTER
Mayor Parker read a letter that was sent to the Chief of Police Rick
Elliott from the Clark County Office Division of Family and Children
Social Services Administration. They are writing to express their
appreciation of Detective Charley Thompson and the work he does in
behalf of the children of Clark County signed by Judith Nelson, Child
Welfare Supervisor.
SEWER PLANT SALE
City Attorney Mike Gillenwater reported to Steve Tolliver that they
are having the Sewer Plant Sale a week from tomorrow and he would
appreciate it if they get the grass cut and clean up the property.
CURB SIDE PICK-UP
Street Commissioner George Trembly reporting on picking up curb side.
The contract that we have now that went into effect last week~ we have
come across with one problem with commercial establishment like
Eastlawn Arms who have their own dumpsters and pay to have them, is
now putting carpeting at the curb and wanting the City to pick it up.
Mayor Parker asked George to notify them about our policy.
SEPTIC SYSTEM
Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman reported he received a call about a
person running their septic system through a pipe in the 4400 block of
Hamburg Pike. They are in the City but they cannot reach the sewer
line. Mayor Parker asked Bill Gavin to look into this.
BLOODMOBILE
Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger reported that the Bloodmobile
will be in the Commissioner's Room will be here today.
BUDGETS
Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger reported that all the budgets
are in. Director Lakeman and Director Matra will sit down with Donna
in the next day or so to see if they are ready for presentation to the
Council.
ORDINANCES
Animal Shelter Jan Wheatley asked City Attorney Mike Gillenwater if
the Ordinance passed by the County Commissioners apply to the
incorportated areas. Mike said that he talked to Dan Moore about this
and they agreed that they do not.

There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety~ Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at
lO:35a.m., seconded by Director d_Mc~rra, and carried unanimously.
