OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE~ INDIANA
MONDAY JUNE 77 1993
Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.,
and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker,
Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection
Office Director Jim Matra.
Also present were: Bullding Commissioner Bill Gavin, Street
Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater, Utility
Director Steve Tolliver~ Police Chief Rick Elliott, Fire Chief Jerry
Dooley, Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James Jr., Animal Shelter Manager
Jan Wheatley, Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen, City Services
Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh~ Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman, Clerk
and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Alice Davis.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting
of June 1, 1993 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried
unanimously.
ROADBLOCKS FOR MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
Police Chief Rlck Elliott reported that Bob Hedge called him this
morning because he could not attend this meeting. He is requesting
Saturday June 85, 1993 from 8:00am-4:OOpm for the Muscular Dystrophy
roadblocks at 8 locations, Market and Main Streets, and Main and 10th
Streets. The State has to give approval for loth Street. Director
Lakeman made the motion to approve the roadblocks on M~rket and Main
Street and Main and loth Street upon contingent of the States approval
for loth. Street, seconded by Director Matra, and carried
unanimously.
RESIDENT PARKING
W.W. Jones, 330 Pearl Street requested a resident parking sign, he
did not appear before the Board, this was tabled.
SOLICITORS PERMIT
Greg Cagle of Texas University requests a solicitors permit to go door
to door selling Southwestern Study Guides. His hours are
?:OOam-lO:OOpm Monday - Saturday from now until August 22, 1993.
Mayor Parker said that he will have to change his hours. Police Chief
Rick Elliott said that the hours can be from 9:00am-?:OOpm. He must
register with the Police Department and pay the $85.00 permit fee at
the Clerk-Treasurers Office. Director Lakeman made the motion to
approve the solicitors permit with the changing of hours, registering
in the Police Dept. and paying the fee in the Clerk-Treasurers Office,
seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
BRIDGE CLOSING
Police Chief Rick Elliott reported that the Louisville Police
Department is requesting the closing of the Rnd. Street Bridge on
June 12, 1993 from 7:30am to noon for the Courier Journal Run.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the closing of the Bnd
Street Bridge, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.

PEDDLER~S PERMIT
Johnnie White requested a Peddler's Permit for selling Bibles and
Encyclopedias, she did not attend the meeting, this was tabled.
CRUSADE FOR CHILDREN
Mayor Parker asked Fire Chief Jerry Dootey to report on the Crusade
for Children roadblocks. Chief Dooley said that last year we
collected $18,000.00, this year $19,856.00 we are still getting checks
and will collect over $20,000.00. Chief Dooley wants to pay special
thanks to all members of the Fire Department~ Police Department and
all the volunteer children who collected door to door. I also want to
pay special thanks to the K of C~s, Shriners, American Legion~ local
Restraunts, Grocery Stores and the Police for picking the Children up
because we had a fire downtown.
PARKING LOT CONTRACT
City Attorney Mike Gillenwater reported that the contract for the
parking lot on Spring and Market Streets has not been executed as of
now. Mr. Westerfield who owns the lot is going to chain off the lot
and tow the cars parked there if the contract isn't signed in a couple
of days.
BUDGETS
Director Lakeman reported that we have had our pre-budget meetings~
now we need to have sign ups for Budget meetings for Wednesday and
Thursday, the Mayor and Clerk-Treasurer will be sitting in the next 3
Budget meetings. This will be the final meetings before we present it
to the Council.
RESIGNATION
Mayor Parker reported that Bill Gavin turned in his resignation as
City Engineer. He will stay on as Building Commissioner. We will
formally bring to the Board at next weeks meeting on who's going to
fill that position.
SACRED HEART FESTIVAL
Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that he received a call
from Rodney Brammer concerning the Sacred Heart Festival about using 3
barracades, the garbage packer, and 55 gal. drums. George said that
the only thing that he can lend them is the barracades, we are not
loaning out the packer and the drums. Rumpke has the disposable trash
RESIGNATION
Mayor Parker reported that Utilities Director Steve Tolliver is
turning in his resignation as of July 1, 1993. Mayor Parker said that
Steve did a tremendous job and we will miss him, and we wish him well
at his new job.

CONFINED SPACE LAWS
Utilities Director Steve Tolliver reported that the Confined Spaces
Law will be in effect on June 15, 1993. There will be a Vendor here
on Wednesday June 9~ 1993 at 1:00pm. We will be getting an idea of
what's required by law so that we will be in compliance. He will be
here to show how the equipment should be used. Anyone that wants can
come to the demonstration, it will last around 30 minutes.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at
9:55a.m., seconded by D~rector Marra~ and carried unanimously.
