Packer Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.~ and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Parker~ Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin: Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater: Utility Director Steve Tolliver~ Police Chief Rick Elliott: Fire Chief Jerry Dooley~ Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James Jr.~ Animal Shelter Manager Jan Wheatley~ Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ewton, Parks Superintendent Rodger Caldwell~ Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman, Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger: and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of May 24, 1993 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. PRESENTATION Mayor Parker presented former Councilperson Marie Clapp with the Admiral Jeffersonville Navy Award~ the highest award the City can gives a recognition and appriciation of outstanding service to ouc Community. Also the Mayor recognized Harold "Pee Wee" Lakemans BSth Anniversary in Public Service. TRAFFIC PROBLEM AT JEFF HIGH Police Chief Rick Eltiott talked to Bob Metzger about the flashing lights at Jeff High. He will have a final cost and then we can present it to the School Corporation. Building Commissioner Bill Gavin suggested caution lights like the ones at the main Fire house. Chief Elliott said that he will have the cost estimates in a couple of weeks. Melba Doggett suggested contacting Mr. Gibson from Thomas Jefferson School about the flashing lights at the School. DRAINAGE PROBLEM ON BISHOP ROAD Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that he went out and took a look at the drainage problem on Bishop Road, he said that there is no ditch~ its flat ground. It needs to be dug out, but we don~t have the equipment to do the job. The cost estimate will be $B300.00 from a private contractor. Cleaning it out won't help~ the water stands there. PAVING ROOSEVELT DRIVE Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that he went out and measured the section of Roosevelt Drive that has never been paved. It will cost $900.00 to have it dug out, rocked~ and paved. Mayor Parker told George to go ahead with the paving. PAGE 2 JUNE 1, 1993 SENIOR GAMES FUN WALK Director Lakeman reported that Lt. Dave Schmidt has changed the route of the Seniors Fun Walk, the walk will start at Warder Park, go East on Court Avenue to Locust Street to St. Augustine's Church. The Fun Walk will be held on Monday June ?, 1993. RESIDENT PARKING Cora Townsend, 939 Maple Street requested a resident parking sign~ this was tabled. STREET LIGHT Todd Hale requested a street light at Interprise Rent A Car~ this was tabled. ROADBLOCK FOR MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY Bob Hedge reported that Melody Oesmond District Director of Muscular Dystrophy wants some of the Associations in Southern Indiana to get involved. They want to have a roadblock sometime in July. Bob will come back next week to the Board meeting with the dates and locations. STREET CLOSURE FOR ST. AUGUSTINE'S FESTIVAl disposalable ones. and Spring Streets. Truck sitting by in said that they could enough to be here in Mary Frye representing St. Augustine's Festival Committee requests that Chestnut Street between Locust and Walnut Streets be closed off from parking on Friday August 13~ 1993 from 5:00pm-l:OOam for a street dance with the Marlins in conjunction with the Monte Carlo. Mayor Parker said that she will have to coordinate the 1:©©am with the neighbors to see if is to late. Also requesting that the alley between the Parish Hall and the Church be blocked off for the Festival. We need trash cans, Director Lakeman said that the City doesn't have any to lend out~ but she can call Rumpke, they have Mary also requests to have banners hung at loth Also the Committee would like to have a Fire case of an emergency. Fire Chief Jerry Dooley not sit by with a truck~ but that they are close minutes. The Board requests that Mary come back the week before the festival with an update. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the request made by Mary Frye in regards to the August 13~ 1993 St. Augustine's Festival with the exception of the Fire Truck, seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. PERMIT FOR PREACHING THE GOSPEl David Montoya requested a permit for preaching the Gospel, tabled. this was BANNERS FOR JUMP COMMITTEE FOR STEAMBOAT DAYS Melba Doggett requests banners for the Jump Committee Riverside Arts and Crafts for the Steamboat Days be put up. George Trembly said that the only place they can be hung is at the loth. Street Railroad Bridge on both sides. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the hanging of the Jump Committee Banners for Steamboat Days~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. ~AGE 3 JUNE 1, 1993 TITLE PROBLEM City Attorney Mike Gillenwater reported that they are in the process of selling the Old Sewer Plant and they are doing a title search on the property. Mike said that there is a problem, the railroad may own part of that property. Building Commissioner Bill Gavin said that he has some information on this and will meet with Mike after this meeting. NEW TURN ONTO EASTERN BLVD. FROM SPRING STREET Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that they are finishing up Spring Street and Eastern Blvd. today. I would like for Donna Metzger to advertise in the paper about the 8 ton weight limit, and we will put this into effect next Monday June 14~ 1993. We will send out letters to Liter's Quarry and Ohio Cement. Mayor Parker suggested to Police Chief Rick Elliott to have the Police set out there for a week or so to make them aware of the weight limit and going the wrong way, and then turn it over to the State Police. STOLEN STOP SIGN Street Commissioner George Trembly reported that one of the giant stop signs on Hamburg Pike at the Firehouse ~3 is missing. He has put up a different stop sign to replace it. PAVING Street Commissioner George Trembly said that they have started the paving route today. Also the street in front of the Old Sewer Plant is being paved today. THANK YOU Animal Shelter Director Jan Wheatley reported that they had a problem at the Shelter last Monday. The Police were called and the man was put in jail. We would like to know who the Officer was so we could thank him for responding so quickly.
