OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE~ INDIANA
MONDAY MAY 17~ 1993
Mayor Raymond J. Rarker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.,
and on call of the roil those members present were Mayor Parker,
Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman~ and Sewage Collection
Office Director Jim Matra.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Bilk Gavin, Street
Commissioner George Trembly~ Utility Director Steve Tolliver, Police
Major Dennis Simon, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Animal Shelter Manager
Jan Wheatley, Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen, City Services
Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh, Parks Director of Activities Chuck
Branham, Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger, Councilperson Bill
Wolpert, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Alice
Davis.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting
of May 10, 1993 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried
Onanimously.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented~
seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously.
BIDS FOR NEW ALBANY-CHARLESTOWN PIKE SEWER EXTENSION
The bids for the New Albany-Charlestown Pike Sewer Extension will be
delayed until next week.
TRAFFIC PROBLEM AT JEFF HIGH
Major Dennis Simon taking Police Chief Rick Elliotts place is hear to
address the traffic problem at Jeff High. Police Chief Elliotts
recommendation for the traffic problem is 1) New signs are being
installed, B) lane markings are being studded. 3) additional traffic
enforcement 4) Metzgers Electric is doing a cost survey for installing
flashing lights.
BASKETBALL GOAL ON DUNBAR
Police Chief Rick Elliott did a survey on the basketball goal on
Dunbar with the neighbors in the area~ its about 50-50. We told the
people in the area to keep the kids out of the street a night time.
3 WAY STOP AT NACHAND LANE AND CLAIRVIEW
Police Chief Rick Elliott approved the 3-way stop at Nachand Lane and
Clairview. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the 3 way
stop, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously.

STOP AT 8TH AND WATT STREETS
Police Chief Rick Elliott worked with Engineer Jorge Lanz on the
problem at 8th and Watt Streets. Nothing can be done at this time.
The four way stop would be to dangerous with the hill coming from
Meigs Avenue. Chief Elliott suggested that George Trembly paint lO'of
the curbs yellow on both sides of the 8th. at Watt Street. Director
Lakeman made the motion to approve the recommendation of Chief
Elliott, seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously.
STOP SIGN AT ROOSEVELT AND LEE STREETS
Police Chief Rick Elliott approved the 4 way stop at Roosevelt and Lee
Streets. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the 4 way stop,
seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
STREET LIGHT ON MARY STREET
City Engineer Bill Gavin reported that he did not contact PSI about
the approval of the street light on Mary Street. Bill will contact
PSI about this.
EXPOSED WIRES ON WILLIAMS STREET
City Engineer Bill Gavin said that he has not been out to Williams
Street to check on the exposed wires as of now, but he thinks it might
be cable wires, he will check this out.
ETHNOFEST '93
Angle Watson reported that the Ethnofest '93 will be August B1-22,
1993~ it starts on Saturday from 3:00pm closes Sunday ?:30pm, and we
are requesting the closing of Chestnut Street between Locust and
Walnut. There are five downtown Churches that participate, they are
St. Augustines, St. Pauls, St. Lukes, Wall Street Methodist Church,
First Presbyterian Church. The profits will go to the Center of Lay
Ministries. We will advertise this several times. Director Matra
made the motion to approve this, seconded by Director Lakeman, and
carried unanimously.

Frank Bright of ?th street Pub was not present at the Board Meeting,
this was tabled.

Mayor Parker said that the City Attorney will take a look at the bids
and we will advise you when they will be let.
BUDGETS
Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger reminded everyone that the
Budgets are due today. The meetings that are scheduled for 4:00pm and
later will be rescheduled for during the working day. The meetings
will still be starting on June 17 1993 on an individual basis.
LETTER FROM LIFE SPRINGS
Mayor Parker read a letter he received from LifeSprings Manager of
Emergency Services regarding a Police Officer who helped cope with a
gentleman who presented himself at being a threat with himself as well
as to others. The Police Officer is Captain Gary Woods, we want to
commend him for being extremely helpful and professional during the
tense situation. Mayor Parker commended the Jeffersonville Police
Department on a job well done.
STOP SIGN
Street Commissioner asked Mayor Parker is we should advertise first
before we put up the stop signs. Mayor said that would give the
public one weeks notice of the stop signs.
WEIGHT LIMIT CHANGE
Street Commissioner George Trembly said that he is requesting the
Boards approval to change the weight limit on Spring Street to 8 tons
after construction is completed. There will be a sign put up at 10th
Street going to Eastern Blvd. designating the weight limit area.
Director Lakeman made the motion to start the project at Spring Street
and Eastern Blvd., seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Fire Chief Jerry Dooley reported that the Fire

COMPLAINT
Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger received a call from a resident
on Chippewa Drive complaining about the Mr. Kleanzit signs posted on
the service poles along Utica Pike. Mayor Parker said that the City
has nothing to do with that and suggested that Donna call PSI and tell
them about it.
CLERK-TREASURERS OFFICE
Clerk-Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr. wants to add to what Fire Chief
Dooley mentioned about what happened to Betty Summers-Froedge. We
wish Betty a speedy recovery. The Clerk-Treasurers Office will be
working in con,unction with the Fire Department. We hope that the
checks will be on time and if there is a mistake to contact us. Fire
Chief Jerry Dooley said that he can speak for himself~ the Girl's in
the Clerk-Treasures Office have bent over backwards to help the Fire
Department. Suzy Nevitt is coming down on Tuesday to the Fire House
to help with the payroll, t thank Dick Spencer for letting his
personnel be available to us.
BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SIGN
Councilperson Bill Wolpert received a call from a lady requesting the
City to put a 1993 Basketball Championship sign coming off the 1-65
ramp to Court Avenue. Mayor Parker asked George Trembly to look into
a location and see if there is an appropriate place for it and report
back to the Board.
PROBLEMS AT MUNICH WELDING
Mr. James Bennett said that Mr. Gavin was out at the foot of Frank
Street at Munich Welding. Bill said that he talked to the Union
Officer this morning before the meeting and the City is going to have
it surveyed. Mayor Parker said that we are having a problem there and
we are trying to work with everybody in that locality . We don't know
where the City property stops and private property starts. At Mr.
Gavins request to settle this we are going to have it surveyed.
STREET PAVING
Mr. Goodie asked Mayor Parker what streets are going to be paved this
summer. Mayor Parker said that George Trembly has the list.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety~ Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at
lO:05a.m., seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously.
