HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-14-1994MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY NOVEMBER 14~ 1994 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr.~ Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim~ Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Fire Chief Jerry Dootey, Temporary Animal Shelter Manager Ed Voyles, City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh~ Assistant Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott,Police Major Dennis Simon,Administrative Assistant Donna Baird~ Wastewater Treatment Manager Kendall Coleman, and Clerk Lynne Kempf Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of November ?, 1994 as presented~ seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls am presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. JINGLE BELL CHASE RUN Louisa Henson spoke in regards to the 13th Annual Run on Saturday, December loth, 1994. She asked permission to close certain streets for this event.Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the request~ seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. PARADE Phil Ellis who represents the parade committee asked permission to have the parade this year. It wilt be on Monday, January 16th,1995 at 1B:O0 noon. He requests a police escort and a banner. Director Matra made the motion to grant his request, seconded by Director Lakeman~and carried unanimously. LETTER OF CREDIT Building Commissioner Bill Gavin requested to release $79~835.00 for excavation~ stoney streets, and curbs to Lansberg Cove Development. City Engineer Bob Miller has checked the work and said it is ok to release this amount.For the record, this is just a portion of the Letter of Credit that is .being released.Director Lakeman made the motion to approve this request~ seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. PAGE 2 NOV. 147 1995 BANNERS Connie Sellmer representing Beta Sigma Phi sorority asked permission to put some signs at the entrance of the city. Street Commissioner George Trembly will check the locations out. WASTEWATER TREATMENT Wastewater Treatment Manager Kendall Coleman reported that an inspection was made last Thursday of the facility and no problems were found. He also reported that no solids would be applied to the site because of resident concerns. Attorney Gillenwater brought up pursuing litigation to be reimbursed by PSI for $4~300.00 for repairs to a motor damaged because of a power surge. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve this request~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. PAY INCREASE Street Commissioner George Trembly requested approval to increase the pay of Gary Craig for obtaining his CDL license. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve this request~ seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. He also requested approval for extra money for his services contractual line item for $39~326.68 for Rumpke. He will be going to the council with this. Director Matra made the motion to approve~ seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. YARD WASTE Temporary Animal Shelter Manager Ed Voyles said he has received a few calls regarding yard waste disposal being left in our city parks. He~d like to see a repeat reminder in the newspaper letting people know not to do this. TAXI PERMIT REQUEST Charles Potter of Taxi of Clarksville asked for approval to start a service in Jeffersonville. City Attorney Mike Gillenwater said he would need to show proof of insurance to start and also have a police check done. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve contingent upon the background checks and proof of insurance.~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. COMPLAIN~ Police Major Dennis Simon said he had received a call about a person being paid to remove leaves from yards in the Northaven Subdivision, but that they're being blown into the street. Mayor Parker asked Major Simon to give Street Commissioner George Trembly the information on this and he can issue a citation or warning. Ma~or Simon also wanted to thank Street Commissioner Trembly on behalf of the police department for the work done at the gas pumps, asphalt work~ and the bi~e sto~age areas. PAGE 3 NOV.i~, 1995 There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at lO:20a.m.~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously.
