HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-07-1994MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY NOVEMBER ?, 1994 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr.~ Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Police Chief Charles Eider, Assistant Police Chief Charles Thompson, rite Chief Jerry Dooley, Temporary Animal Shelter Manager Ed Voyles, City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh~ Assistant Parks Superintendent Rick Eltiott, Administrative Assistant Donna Baird, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr.~ and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of October 31, 1994 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. CAB COMPANY PERMIT City Attorney Mike Gillenwater reported that he heard from Mr. Charles Potter~ concerning insurance for his cab company permit. Police Chief Charles Elder received a call from Mr. Potter's mother advising him that they have purchased the insurance and the meter, and would like to start the business, but they couldn't make the meeting this morning. Chief Elder said they would have to appear before the Board to get approved before starting the business. Chief Elder gave them Mr. Lakemans phone number, because he is on the Board. The Potter's did not appear before the Board, this was tabled. REPORT ON 1-65 City Engineer Bob Miller reported on the 1-65 project, he spent about 3/4 of a day in Indianapolis. Bob said that it will have a bad impact on Jeffersonville. Bob spoke with Jorge Lanz, and spent several days last week trying to get a full set of plans, then Jorge and Bob will sit down for 1/8 a day and discuss this and bring back their recommendations to the City of what we have to do. Bob said that he was the only one representing Southern Indiana. Bob also said that the City will not be able to extend Court Avenue. PAGE 2 NOVEMBER ?, 1994 CITED Building Commissioner Bill Gavin reported that he sited Glenn W. and Paula J. Muncy~ 41@5 ~Utica Pike, Jeffersonville, Indiana for their property at 8th and Ewing Lane. It is a danger for children playing because of the broken glass. Mr. Muncy did not show up at this meeting. Mr. Newsome~ appeared at today's meeting and Bill asked to be let in on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. to inspect the house at 916 Walnut Street~ Bill said that there is a lot of storage on the back porch and yard. Mr. Newsome explained that the stuff on the back porch belongs to the people who lived there before the new tenants, and they are holding it for them. Its been there for about 3 or 4 months, he told Bill to say they have abandoned it. Bill said that he received a call from the Police Department on this building, saying that it is not livable. Bill told Mr. Newsome that he is being heavily billed for grass cutting for a total of $175.00 at these addresses: 1102 Sportsman Drive, 1100 block of Watt Street, 1039 Watt Street, 916 Walnut Street. Mr. Newsome said that he did not receive a bill for this, the mail needs to be sent to 1B1B Spring Street. Mayor Parker asked Mike what should be done about Mr. Muncy for not coming to the meeting. Mike said that he could be cited into court the next time. LETTER Mayor Parker read a letter about Joe Grant concerning the presentation he gave at Jeffersonville High School and for including Peggy Wilder. Mayor Parker read a letter from Peggy Wilder to Joe Grant thanking him for his presentation. LETTER FROM I.P.E.P. Mayor Parker read a letter from I.P.E.P. in regards to the October 1994 Safety Award that the City of Jeffersonville received. STREET LIGHT WELLINGER STREET City Engineer Bob Miller has a request for a street light at the end of Weilinger Street. Bob recommends putting up the street light. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the street light at the end of Wellinger Street, seconded by Director MaTra, and carried unanimously. There being Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn 9:50a.m.: seconded by Director ~a~ra, and carried unanimously.
